RTA m-Wallet app - The Digital Travel documents app in Telangana

Having to carry one's vehicle documents has always been a huge concern for the people with their own vehicles. Even when you carry them with you, you always keep worrying about their safety. There is a possibility of them getting lost or mutilated for one or the other reasons. Is there any solution to this? Well, yes – the Government of Telangana has come up a unique idea. A mobile application labelled m-Wallet makes carrying your vehicle documents an easy task.

Technology has always made our lives simple. Government of Telangana truly deserves a pat on its back. The new mobile app m – Wallet has been an innovative step. In a big step that relieves the motorists of their biggest worries. It is aimed at being a one stop solution for all the needed documents of the vehicle you own. The app is supposed to be fetch all the necessary documents. It will help you keep all the documents in the digital form. We will get into more details of the new app.

What is RTA m-Wallet?

Put into simple and easy to understand words, m-Wallet is a mobile application conceptualised and developed in association with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Telangana. It is a single screen way of efficiently saving all your travel and vehicle related documents. It lets you carry all your vehicle papers including registration certificate and driving license. You no longer need to carry your documents physically with you while on travel within the state of Talangana.

The app m-Wallet helps you store all your documents without the worry of them getting lost or misplaced. With the app, you can store all the papers in the digital form on your smartphone. And the best part is you can show the digital wallet on your smartphone to the authorities while the regular checking.
The IT minister of Telangana Mr. K Taraka Rama Rao officially launched the application recently. Launched for Android and iOS platforms, the users can easily download the app from their respective app stores and register their vehicles and other transport related documents. If you have multiple vehicles registered in your name, you can register them all within the single app.

How does the app work?

Well, you can just head over to your app store and search for the m- Wallet app. Once installed on your phone, you just need to register yourself with your name and mobile number.
The RTA m-Wallet app lets you save a digital copy of your RC book and driving license on your smartphone. Here is a more detailed information on how it works –

Once you register your details with name, mobile number and email ID. Your mobile number is verified and authenticated with the help of a One Time Password (OTP) sent to you via the text message. Once the mobile number is verified, you can begin using the app. You can now add the Registration Certificate (RC) and your driving license.
To register your RC, you need to enter your Registration Number along with the last five digits of your chassis number. The registration is done instantly. For registering the Driving License, you will need to enter your license number, date of birth and the Regional Transport Authority –RTA under which the driving license has been issued.

Salient features of the app

Well, we would say it is a great initiative. It has been designed to auto fetch all the related transport documents owned by an individual. The app is likely to come with the introduction of addition of insurance documents soon.
The m-Wallet lets you get rid of the unwanted harassment meted out to the gullible citizens for not carrying the vehicle documents. The application is accepted by the traffic authorities as original.
The features of the application include -
  • You can show your smartphone app to the authorities while checking.
  • You do not need to carry your travel documents.
  • You can add multiple vehicles to your profile.
  • The certificates and documents are digitally fetched from the officially servers, thus avoiding the chances of fraudulent documentation.
  • Once you upload/ download the documents, they get saved on your device. No need of internet connectivity for further usage.

Being the initial launch, the app may have certain drawbacks. We can expect the issues be resolved soon. However, we could not find any issues so far.

Anything lacking in the app?

For the time being, there are not many issues we could pin point. However, that does not mean there aren't any problems.
One of the issues we could find – as of now – is the lack of pollution certificate. As many of us – motorists – are aware, pollution certificates are much necessary these days. The m-Wallet app does not support pollution certificate. So you are forced to carry the pollution certificate with you. We just hope to see the feature enabled soon. However, the official press release stays mum on the topic.
One more important issue that I not happy with is that the application will only be valid in the state of Telangana itself. If you are moving out of the state, you will not be able to use the app. In such cases, you are forced to carry your travel documents.

And finally….

Well, we must say, it is a great initiative. Being a part of Digital Telangana platform, the app is a big boon for the motorists around the state. The service is definitely getting a warmer welcome by the users. It indeed is a great start in the direction of the Digital India initiative. We would really wish to see it coming up in other states as well.
