Voodoo App Review - A Great app to get best offers for your online purchases

Online shopping is the "In-thing" these days. Gone are the days we used to shop at the brick and mortar stores. But, not all online stores, or E-commerce sites provide you the same discounts and prices. What would you do compare prices across different stores?

Here we go with the best app that lets you compare prices across a huge list of E-commerce sites on your smartphone. Voodoo – a little app helps you out have a comparative analysis on a variety of online stores from within a single app.

Well, most of us shop online for almost all of our needs of late. Sure, you would not want to take a buying decision on the spur of the moment. You are going to have a comparative analysis of price of the product on all quarters – on all e-commerce sites, that is to say. So, how would you do it?

On your PC, or laptop – you will open a bulk of tabs (of all your favourite online stores) and find the best price you can get for your product. Or better still, you will install and enable a couple of good browser extensions and get information on a better deal. The extensions work in a simple way – whenever you go to an E-commerce site and search for a product, these extensions identify the product and compare the price across the competing sites and present the comparison before you almost instantly.

What would you do on your mobile? Well, open different apps installed on your phone and check the prices. Or you can use an app like ShopInSync and browse your product on it. But ShopIn Sync won't help you if you want to check your product on a particular app, say Flipkart or Amazon. Maybe you like certain features of an app and love to browse the product on it – but doing so will make you lose out on better deals elsewhere for the same product. That is exactly where an app Voodoo comes to your rescue.

What is Voodoo?

Voodoo is a little, yet useful app that lets you compare prices across different E-commerce sites. It can be compared to the browser extension for your mobile.

The app works with almost all major shopping sites. It just integrates itself with all the shopping apps on your smartphone. When you use a particular app on your phone, the app interacts with the app and lets you know the best deals available for your product.

How does Voodoo work?

As we stated before, Voodoo works just like your browser extensions do. The app works well with all your installed shopping apps.

Once you open a particular app and browse for a product of your choice – the Voodoo app shows up as an icon on your screen. You just need to tap on the icon while you search for a product. Doing so will bring up the available deals for the same product on other apps. Tapping on the deal will show up the details of the deal. If you like the deal, you can tap on View on App button. This will open the concerned app. You can now go on and make your purchase.

And if you have no deals available for the product, Voodoo shows you other similar products and coupons that can be redeemed on the app you are currently on.

For the service to work as it is intended to, you will need to use it as an Accessibility service. The app itself will prompt you to enable the accessibility option. If not, you can do so by going into Settings ->My Device ->Accessibility ->Services and then selecting Voodoo.

Salient features of the app

The app does what it claims to. And does it quite aptly. There are certain cases where the icon covers your entire screen. It could be annoying at times, however you can move it around as it keeps floating around.

The Features
  • The app does not need you to activate it specifically. It has the Auto Assist feature wherein the app comes up with specific deals no matter on which app you are.
  • You can find the best price for all your products across all shopping apps around.
  • Voodoo supports a wide range of shopping services like Flipkart, SnapDeal, PayTM and Jabong among others. It support a huge number of E-commerce sites and apps.
  • The app also lets you get coupons and offers on sites like FreeCharge and PayTM among other such sites.

One of the best features we liked about the app is the Cab Comparison. You can compare the cab prices across Ola, Uber and TaxiForSure. It shows up the cabs based on the few categories like Nearest and Cheapest.

The apps currently supported on the Voodoo service adds upto 26. The developers are planning to add many more to the list. But, given the fact that only a few of them are used extensively – the current list must be enough for a normal shopper.

The Developers and founders

The Voodoo app is founded by Mohit Mittal and Vijay Reddy. Both the founders have a good experience in the E-commerce world. Mohit is a IIT, Madras alumni. He earlier founded Myriad Digital Networks. He has also handled the Times Internet as Product Manager. Vijay Reddy has the the experience of being a software developer with Flipkart.

Voodoo currently operates with a team of 10 members. They have recently raised funds worth 1 million Dollars through SAIF partners. The firm is currently planning to improve the team strength and is hiring.

The Future

Well, as far as the revenue growth is concerned, the firm is currently looking at enhancing the service. They are not concentrating on increasing the revenue prospects as of now. As Mohit says,
"Our long-term goal is to be a part of every transaction in the mobile space. Many more useful features are in the pipeline for our upcoming versions to take the shopping experience a notch higher. We are launching a Whatsapp integration next."

They are currently operational only on Android. There are plans to launch an iOS version soon. The new version is likely to be launched in early 2016.

Is there anything to worry about?

Well, nothing much. But as said above, the service needs you to enable the accessibility feature for it to work properly. However, while doing so – you need to check the warning. Voodoo collects the text you type – everything except the passwords. And that means your credit card information as well. Voodoo says it does not collect your personal information. But, we just wanted to point out to you what you are sharing with the app.

Apart from that, there isn't anything more to worry about. The app performs quite well and does exactly what it promises to do

Our Views

We were really impressed with the app. The installation and the working is quite simple and user friendly. It does make your shopping experience unique and convenient. The possibility of having various offers on the competing site is really much helpful in achieving a wholesome and practical shopping. Yes, there are a couple of negative points here and there. The app sometimes is too slow load. The forced activation of accessibility features is a bit annoying. On some devices, especially on Samsung – Voodoo has been observed to deactivate certain features, a few most important features at that like Multi Window, TalkBack etc.

But those need not be the reasons to stop you from installing and trying this app on your smartphone. It is a free app and the positives exceed the negative points for the app. We will definitely invite you to try the app and share your experiences here. If you are a die hard shopper and conduct most of your financial transactions online, Voodoo is definitely your choice.
