How to improve Android app development process

For someone who's new in Android development environment, its important to know some tips and development knowledge. So to help newbies, I am posting this article. In this article, you will get to know the solutions related to faults while developing apps in Android Studio and some tips to improve their development. Here you will get to know some ideas of Android Studio and some precautions to take while development. Even I am a newbie to Android development, so to help others, I am posting this article.

I was recently working on my final year project and was developing a web view app with navigation drawer. I faced many issues during development. So today I am sharing the solutions for little faults in program compiler.

Cannot resolve symbol R

This is the common issue every developer faces. To solve this issue, go to Build option in menu bar and select Clean Project and then Rebuild Project. These are the compiler errors. Sometimes, these errors are solved by Studio itself.

Shows blank screen in Android Emulator

I faced this issue when I tried to run Android Emulator. Even after 30 minutes, a blank screen was shown. To solve this issue, I went to AVD(Android Virtual Device) manager which is available in menu bar. There I created a new virtual device with 546 or lesser RAM. Then I tried to run emulator and it worked! Emulator shows Android screen and after 5 minutes I was able to run and test my app in emulator.

Padding in WebView

It is necessary to remove padding if you want to show Web page in your app. To do this, go to activity_main and remove the contents of padding such as padding left, padding right and all.

Add navigation drawer

When we manually try to add sliding bar i.e. Navigation drawer, most of the time our app crashes. To solve this problem, Android Studio has taken a step further. They have introduced Navigation Drawer activity. When you create a new project, a set of activities are being displayed for you to select. Then select Navigation Drawer Activity and proceed further. In this, you just have to specify the activities that will take place after selection of desired options from the sliding bar. The switch case method helps you to add methods for specific selection of item in the bar. You don't even need to style the sliding bar. Google provides a stylist sliding bar which is transparent and unique of all bars available today in applications. Just name the item and add methods to it.

Try to build apps for latest versions of Android platform

I am recommending this step because many popular features like sharing, converting action bar to toolbar, material design, etc are available in latest versions like KitKat, Lollipop and Marshmallow. If you try to build apps for this platform, then it will be more easy to add new features and customize the existing ones.

Never change the gradle files.

Unless you are prompt to modify gradle files, don't even try to change it. It may cause a big error for compilation and running of app if you don't know the solution. So its better to keep those files for compiler.

So these were some of the solutions I applied in my Android app. Hope it will work for you! If you want to know more about Android studio, then visit Google Developer site. Even Android Studio provides you some tips when you open it.
