One Plus Two vs Meizu MX5 - Which one should I buy?
One Plus has carved a niche for itself with two consecutive spectacular launches. One Plus Two has carried forward the tradition initiated by One Plus One last year. But, rival manufacturers are not willing to give it respite. Meizu - another Chinese brand has come up with strikingly similar features on its new Meizu MX5. Will One Plus Two keep its position of "Flagship Killer"? Let us compare the two rivals in this face off.
One Plus Two has been a real successor to one of the most successful smartphones in 2014 - One Plus One. But rivals are not leaving it bask in the glory of its achievement. Meizu - the Chinese competitor has now come up with Meizu MX 5 which seems to have almost similar specification sheet. How does One Plus Two fare in the face of competition? Here is a detailed comparative analysis between the two rivals.
Look and feel
Meizu MX5 looks premium with its all metal unibody design. One Plus Two shares the similar frame made of Aluminium- Magnesium alloy and thinner bezels. Meizu MX5 is made from the high grade aluminium.
The physical dimensions of One Plus Two read 151.8x74.9x9.8 mm and it weighs a hefty 175 grams. Meizu MX5 is both lighter and smaller than it with its vital statistics measuring 149.9x74.7x7.6 mm and weighing just 149 grams.
One Plus Two looks too good to resist. It has a unique look with sandstone rear finish and the metal rim running across the frame. The MX5 does not fall behind though. It has a striking resemblance to iPhone as far as looks are concerned. Display
Meizu MX5 comes with a 5.5 inch AMOLED display at a full HD resolution of 1920x1080. This excellent resolution translates into an amazing pixel density of 401 ppi. On the other hand, One Plus Two has the same 5.5 inch screen. But, it is equipped with a full HD LCD display at the same resolution. The pixel density remains similar as on the competitor at 401 ppi. The major difference between AMOLED and LCD display is you get clearer blacks and vivid color reproduction. In AMOLED screens, each dot on the screen emits its own light, while in LCD there are a few points in the screen which emit light. Meizu scores over One Plus in terms of display quality.
One Plus Two, however has an edge over the rival as it is protected by Gorilla Glass 4 while the protection on the Meizu MX5 is provided by Gorilla Glass 3. The fourth generation of Corning's screen protection technology is claimed to have twice the damage resistance capacity than its predecessor.Hardware and performance
One Plus Two is powered by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octacore processor that has a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. On the other hand, Meizu MX5 employs a MediaTek Helio X10 octacore processor with an impressive 2.2 GHz clock speed. Using a MediaTek processor may be a bad news for those who are looking for technical details with microscopic eye. However, it performs well with easy opening of apps and flawless multitasking.
One plus Two is a powerhouse with its 4 GB RAM on the 64 GB version. The 16 GB variant, meanwhile, carries the same 3 GB RAM as on the Meizu MX5. Both of them have no expandable memory slot. However, One Plus Two comes in two variants of memory capacity - 16 and 64 GB while Meizu MX5 offers the choice between 16, 32 and 64 GB. One more plus point- though minor - is that One Plus Two has LPDDR4 RAM in comparison to the LPDDR3 RAM on Meizu MX5.
The differentiation in terms of these hardware specifications remain different only on paper. As a matter of fact, both of these devices perform well enough and can handle everything you throw at it. Both of them are equally capable of heavy multitasking and resource hungry apps or games.Camera
Well, here Meizu scores over One Plus Two based on a specification to specification comparison. It packs in a 20.7 MP rear camera with dual tone flash and laser auto focus. The camera is capable of 4K videos at 2160p resolution at 30 fps and 1080p HD videos at 60 fps. You can also record slow motion videos at 720p resolution and a frame rate of 100 fps.
One Plus Two has a 13 MP rear camera with laser auto focus again. It has 4K video recording capabilities. It also has slow motion recording in high definition at 120fps. The Meizu seems to be taking a lead here, yet megapixels alone can not be a reason to get better snaps. One Plus Two is definitely a great camera phone by all means. We may need to wait till we get to see a few user reviews about the camera quality on Meizu MX5. For now, however, Meizu MX5 is a leader when it comes to camera.Software
One Plus Two runs on its own its own OS - OxygenOS. The OS is based on Android Lollipop. It resembles stock Android to the core. It is indeed the leanest and simplest UI compared to what we have come to see from the Chinese brands. There are not much preinstalled bloat ware. Moreover, they have been coming up with updates soon after the launch which an indication that they listen to customer feedback.
Meizu MX5 too runs on its own FlyMe 4.5 OS which again is based on the Android Lollipop. But, it suffers from too much customisation. You will not find anything near stock Android on it. Users may need a lot of time learning and getting used to the software and settings. The home button also acts as back button. You have no access to recent apps as we have been used to on an Android. The One Plus Two is powered by a 3300 mAh battery. You should get around 8 hours of backup with high usage. Meizu MX5, on the other hand has a 3150 mAh battery which is slightly of lower capacity. Given the same resolution and screen size on both the devices and also since both of them use octacore processors, the backup time should not differ much between the two phones. We may need to wait a little till we come across reviews which will shed more light on the battery consumption levels of the phone. I would expect One Plus Two to give you more backup as it has LPDDR4 RAM. DDR4 RAM is supposed to have more efficient management of resources.
With respect to connectivity options on the devices, both of them provide dual SIM functionality, 4G support, bluetooth, WiFi and GPS. One Plus Two comes with Type - C USB connection. For the uninitiated, USB Type C is the latest connector type which can be used in either directions. It also offers high speed data transfers.
Both the devices come with finger print scanner. Both of them support touch type implementation for the scanner.
Major issues with Meizu is the lack of service options. They have no authorised service centre in India. They had been delaying the launch of MX5 for setting up an authorised service centre. However, Meizu has announced at the launch event of MX5 that it will offer doorstep service. Customers can have their phones picked up from their homes for service needs.Price and availability
The One Plus Two is available in India on invites only. The 64 GB version has been priced at Rs. 24999. 16 GB variant will be launched later this year. Meizu MX5 has been made available on SnapDeal at Rs. 19999. You need to register for being eligible for the flash sale.Which one is better?
Both of these devices are similar to one another. They have their own unique features. If price is the only factor, then Meizu MX5 is the best choice. Meizu MX5 costs you Rs. 19999 for a 32 GB model, whereas One Plus Two will cost you Rs. 24999 for a 64 GB model. It could be a good choice to go for. In terms of features and functionality, both of them are almost similar to each other.
