How to create your own Windows 10 Bootable Drive or Disk

To get upgraded, you can either opt for the automatic upgrade on your Windows PC or make a bootable drive or disk if you need to get Windows 10 on several systems quickly. When it comes to making a bootable drive, you have the choice of either a USB drive or a DVD. The USB drive would be the preferred option since it provides advantages in the form of faster reading and writing speeds.

Given the fact that not all PCs and laptops come with a DVD drive and the convenience that comes with a USB drive, this choice should not be a difficult one to make. Regardless of what you choose, ensure that the drive or DVD you use as a bootable media has no important data on it. Prior to the bootable device being created, the disk or drive will be formatted. The process requires a total of 3GB space, so make sure your device has at least 4 GB of free space.

So, here is how you go about creating the bootable drive for Windows 10 installation.
  • You need to download Windows 10 media creation tool. You have options for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. To find out what version of Windows you are currently running, just select System and Security under Control panel and check the value for System type.
  • Once the tool is installed, you can launch the application and select "Create Installation Media for Another PC" in the prompt you get, and then click on Next.
  • The next step will require you to select the preferred language and architecture. You will also need to choose the Edition.
  • For Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 8 / 8.1, or Windows 10 Home, the edition will be Windows 10 Home.
  • For Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro, 8.1 Pro, Windows 8 Professional, or Windows 10 Pro, the edition will need to be Windows 10 Pro.
  • Finally, you will need to select the device you are using to create the bootable media. You can choose "USB Flash drive" or "ISO file" if you are using a DVD. The creation tool will take care of the rest and once it is finished, you have your Windows 10 bootable DVD or drive ready.

The bootable device will enable you to upgrade all your Windows systems to Windows 10 quickly and smoothly.
