How to setup and configure Teewe dongle for your TV

Did you recently purchase a Teewe dongle and like to learn how to configure it on your TV and smartphone? Read the step by step instructions to setup your Teewe dongle and start enjoying your media from your smartphone on your television.

Teewe is a popular TV streaming device in India and competes with Google Chromecast and Apple TV. You can read a comprehensive review of Teewe.

In this article, let us take a look at the setup and configuration of Teewe media streaming device.

Connect the device

Connect the Teewe dongle to the HDMI port on your television. For most TVs, the HDMI ports are located at the back of the TV.

Connect the USB cable to the dongle and plug it into a USB port on the TV. If your TV doesn't have a USB port, you can use the power adapter and connect the USB cable to the power supply.

Pick up your TV remote control and change the "Input" to the HDMI port in which you have plugged in the Teewe dongle. If you have multiple HDMI ports, make sure you are choosing the right port as the Input. Either look at the number marked near the HDMI port or keep switching inputs until you see the Teewe logo displayed on the screen.

The Teewe device will boot up and setup a private WiFi hotspot for your phone/laptop to connect. Allow a few minutes for the device to startup and configure the hotspot. You can see the progress on your television. Once the hotspot is ready, you will see the code displayed on the TV screen.

Download, install and launch the Teewe app

To complete the setup and start streaming, you need to run the Teewe app on your device. There are separate apps available for each type of device. For Android phones, you can download the app from Google Play Store. For iOS devices like iPhone, you can install the app using Apple iTunes. Install and launch the app on your WiFi enabled phone or laptop.

Setup Teewe dongle

To start the setup, your TV must be ON, dongle must be connected to the HDMI port and you should have selected the right Input. You will see a setup screen on the TV as shown below:

Now, launch the Teewe app on your device. Connect the device to the WiFi hotspot created by the Teewe device. Your app will detect the Teewe device and show a screen as show below.

Troubleshooting: If your app can't locate the device, make sure the Teewe device is powered on and you can see the setup screen on the TV. Also make sure your phone/laptop is connected to the WiFi hotspot created by the Teewe.

Click on "Setup Teewe" link to get started.

In the next screen, your device will show a code. Make sure this code matches the code displayed in the TV screen. This is to make sure you are connecting to the right Teewe and not to your neighbor's Teewe!

Click on "Next" to proceed. It is time to give a name for your Teewe connection. I called it "Techulator" as shown in the below screen:

Configure Teewe dongle

Now, select your home WiFi network and type your WiFi password to connect.

Be aware that even if you choose to mask the password, Teewe will popup your password in clear text to confirm, sometimes making you embarrassed!

After you enter the WiFi password, the app will try to connect to the Teewe system on the TV. It may take a few minutes to complete the configuration. During this time, your TV screen will show your Teewe network's name you entered in one of the previous screens.

Once the app is connected, it will aggregate content and show you on the app. You can tap on the icons in the app to start streaming them to your TV.

I tried Teewe on a couple of devices including 2 smart phones and 1 laptop. One time the app failed to detect the dongle. I restarted the TV as well as the phone and that solved the problem.

If your app is not connecting to the dongle, check your WiFi connection first. Make sure both the TV and your phone/laptop are connected to the same WiFi network. It is important to have both in the same network to stream the content from your device to TV using the Teewe dongle.

I tested the device on multiple televisions and devices and it works as expected on all supported devices.
