Simple Audio Go Bluetooth speakers - Are they any good?

I recently got my hands on Simple Audio 'Go' bluetooth speakers made by Corsair, a company that's well known at making quality computer components. Here's my review.

If you've ever assembled a computer yourself, you would've definitely used a few components from Corsair. This is one brand that's very well known at making quality PC parts. I reviewed the Antec SP1 bluetooth speakers earlier and thought they were the best I've used till date until I got my hands on the Simple Audio Go bluetooth speakers.

The Simple Audio Go speakers come packed in a creative package that sides out and then opens like a treasure box. You'd be very excited and happy to open it up if you receive these speakers as a gift from someone. The speakers are covered in a dust-resistant cloth bag on one side, and the other side contains cables and manuals.

Looks & Build Quality

The Simple Audio Go speakers are one of the most compact speakers I've ever seen. At just 284 grams, it looks classy and seems well built. The body is rubberized and gives a good grip when held in hand. The top on the other hand is glossy and houses the volume controls along with a select button. This, in my opinion, improves the overall look of the speakers. At the back are the Line In controls along with a micro-USB inlet and a Power On/Off button. The base at the bottom has 2 sturdy rubber beads installed that give the speakers a perfect grip on the ground. There's also a sub outlet just behind the beads that help the speakers churn out better music.

The first song I played on the 'Go' was a soft Bollywood number that was played at approximate 50% volume. The clarity, speaker bass and the overall mood it created in the room was absolutely delightful. There are two stereo speakers inside and a separate bass driver that gives it the thump. I tried playing various genres on this speaker and it performed very well on all kinds of music. At the time of writing this article, I am playing a song by Maroon 5 and the churns our clear highs and very rich lows. Even if I try to, I am not able to notice any distortion, vibration or cracks from the sound. These speakers should sound good not only indoors but also outdoors amid ambient noise.

I tested the range of these speakers myself by playing music on my Moto G in one corner of the house and taking the speakers to various other corners of the house. I was successfully able to hear music upto 24-25 feet after which it started losing sound waves and the sound started cracking. It completely stopped getting reception at around 30 feet. Please note, this range was despite of three solid cement walls in between the clear line of sight that Bluetooth devices usually require.

Connecting it to my cellphone/tablet was a piece of cake. To be able to connect it to your device, please follow this method:
  • Switch on the Bluetooth speakers
  • Switch on Bluetooth on your smartphone and scan for devices
  • Bring the speakers in the discoverable mode by pressing the top center button for about 2 seconds
  • Once you see the LED light flashing red/blue, the device would be visible on the smartphone
  • Pair the speakers on your smartphone
  • Start playing music

These Bluetooth speakers can also be used on computers with no Bluetooth component. Since most desktops do not come with a WiFi/Bluetooth card, connecting these speakers via the audio cable solves this issue. The included 3.5mm male to male stereo input audio cable when connected to the 'AUX port' on the speakers and the 'headphone port' on the computer completes the connection.

In comparison to my earlier review of the Antec SP1 bluetooth speakers, I would rate the 'Go' much higher in terms of sound quality. Not only are these louder but also clearer and much compact. They're not as loud as Bose Soundlink but by no comparison sound weak and come at a fraction of its cost.

Battery & Playback

The Simple Audio Go speakers are powered by an in-built Lithium-Ion battery that on paper is supposed to give you a continuous sound output of 8 hours, however in my opinion, battery life is Dependant on the speaker volume and the kind of music being played. Although, I was not able to test it on a continuous basis, I successfully got it to play music for me for around 6+ hours in two separate shifts on a single charge. This is much better than my JBL Flip that dies down after 2+ hours of playback.

While connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth, this device also lets you receive calls making use of the built-in microphone. The microphone quality is good and during our test the caller on the other line was clearly able to listen to my voice without any issues.

  • Compact & well built
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Ease of connection and use
  • Priced lower than the Antec SP1 & JBL Flip 2

  • Music when played using the AUX cable lacks quality
  • Speaker grill prone to dust accumulation
  • Fingerprint magnet top design

All my family members have loved the sound quality of this device and regularly use it to play music in the house. I now barely get a chance to connect it to my smartphone and play my collection. In my personal opinion, these are the best everyday speakers for personal enjoyment and come cheaper than the Antec speakers I reviewed earlier.
