What kind of blog you should start to get the best AdSense revenue
Are you worried that your CTC, RPM and overall AdSense revenue is too low? Read this article to learn how to increase your RPM and AdSense revenue and also learn what kind of blogs you need to start to get higher AdSense revenue.
I have been posting many blogging tips since last few years but I've been skipping this most difficult question I have faced in blogging field. So, here are the question I'm trying to answer today:
1. How can I increase my AdSense CPC, RPM and overall revenue?
2. What kind of blogs I need to start to get better revenue from AdSense?
3. What type of blogs will get better traffic?
Let me tell you why these questions are really difficult to answer - there are no specific answers to these questions. Nobody can tell you exactly what steps you need to take to improve your CPC, RPM, traffic etc. It depends on several factors and many of them are beyond your control.
Let's look into each of them one by one.
AdSense CPC: AdSense CPC depends on several factors including your niche, country and location of your visitors, the cost advertisers are quoting to get advertised on your website and so on. You cannot control the budget of advertisers. You cannot change the location of your visitors. All you can change is your blog's niche. But is it practical to change your niche just to improve your AdSense CPC? You are blogging in a specific niche probably because you love that niche, you have expertise in that subject and you are confident that you can make your blog successful in that niche. If you simply switch to another niche, there is no guarantee that you can make your blog successful in that subject. The end result would be, you may not get any traffic and in tern, your traffic will be low. So, switching your niche just for increasing your CPC will not be a wise idea, unless you are confident that you can make the blog successful in the niche you choose.

AdSense RPM: RPM is simply a calculated value and you cannot really influence this directly. RPM stands for Revenue Per Thousand Impressions. It is calculated as shown below:
RPM = (Estimated earnings / Number of page views) x 1000
If your earnings is $200 from 40,000 impressions, your RPM will be:
($200 / 40,000) x 1000 = $0.50
To influence your RPM, you must increase your earnings for the same impressions. And the only ways to increase your earnings are either increase the CPC or increase your CTR.
The bottom line is, RPM is not something you can control or influence. It is a calculated value. Don't worry about improving your RPM since it is beyond your control.
AdSense CTR: CTR stands for Click-Through-Rate, which is the number of clicks you get per 1000 impressions. This is an element that you can try to influence and improve.
CTR depends on the ad placement a lot. If you place the Ads in positions where users have the most chances of clicking, that would give you the best CTR. In many cases, ads placed below titles are performing the best. Sometimes, ads placed at the end of an article could give the best result. It can vary from site to site and page to page.
The best option is to keep trying different placements and see which ad placements give the best result. It is more of a trial and error method. An ad placement that gives great CTR for one website may give very poor for another blog. So, try different placements in your blog and find the best one for you.
CTR is also influenced by relevance of the ads in the pages. For example, someone reading an article about Antivirus solutions have a high chance of clicking an Ad about an antivirus solution. However, a person reading news about politics or movies have little chance of clicking an ad since he is not really keen on "getting anything" out of the ad. He is in your site just to read something and go away.
Sometimes, high CTR could be a result of click bombing. Read whether you need to worry about high CTR. Also, read how to protect your AdSense account from click bombing. What type of websites you should start to get better revenue?
Most people are searching for the best niche to start a blog to get the best AdSense CPC. This is probably a wrong approach. In most cases, the niche that gives the highest CPC are health, travel, technology etc. However, if you are not an expert in health niche, chances of making your health blog successful is low. I would rather suggest you focus on a niche in which you can make the blog successful. There is no use in going for a niche just because it has higher AdSense CPC. The higher CPC in that niche will not help you at all unless you can make the blog successful in that niche.
I usually write a lot about AdSense, blogging tips, search engine optimization etc. These topics have the lowest CTR in the blogging field since my readers are usually bloggers and they don't click on any ads since they know what the ads mean. I still focus on this niche and make my living out if since this is the topic I know the best and this is the subject where I can get loyal readers. Instead, if I choose to write on a high CPC niche like health, I may fail to make my blog successful since I don't think I can make such blogs successful, unless I invest heavily to hire good authors on such blogs.
Conclusion: Stop worrying about CPC, CTR, RPM, choosing a niche etc. Focus on your blog in which you have the confidence to make it successful and work smart to improve your traffic. And what matters most is the traffic, which will bring the revenue.
