Huawei Honor 6 Review, Price and Specifications

Check out the best and the most unbiased Huawei Honor 6 review with its price and specifications. You can find a detailed review covering the pros and cons of this device.

With its powerful hardware specifications, can Huawei Honor 6 make it to the list of the best 'value for money' smartphones? Let's find this in our review. Honor 6 performs out of the box in terms of its hardware configurations with its 3 GB RAM perfectly blending with the Kirin 920 Octa-core processor. Honor 6 outshines many other devices in its category and is one of the best choices under Rs 20,000. But it is not much promising in terms of design. Let's figure out what this device can do with such a powerful hardware configuration.

Display & Camera

Huawei Honor 6 Review, Price and Specifications
Huawei Honor 6 features a 5 inch JDI in-cell display which supports resolution of up to 1920 X 1080 pixels. The screen is well lit with its high density pixels and features a 445 PPI density. I have seen many devices which come with much larger screens but none of them provide such a high pixel density. As expected, screen comes glued with corning Gorilla glass protection which is a must for Rs 18k price tag. But what attracted me more was the developer's decision to couple the Gorilla glass protection with an anti-finger print coating. Really, I could see very less finger prints after a long hardcore gaming. Moreover, Huawei Honor 6 is fitted into an ultra thin 2.86 mm frame which provides approximately 76% screen to body ratio. So, overall Huawei Honor 6 checked all the satisfactory boxes in terms of display. After checking the display carefully, I took it outdoor for some photoshoots. The 13 MP rear camera comes with handy features including the Sony's fourth generation BSI sensor which is accompanied by a dual LED flash. The daylight shots were beautiful, crispy and heavily detailed. And the same remark goes for the low light shots. The Huawei Honor 6's instant click feature is something unique in its category and could take shots in just 0.6 seconds (By tapping volume key twice). So, regarding the picture clarity, I have nothing to complain.

Huawei Honor 6 is currently priced at Rs 18k.

Hardware & Performance

Huawei Honor 6 runs on Android Kitkat and supports almost every app you throw at it. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz Octa core processor which gets its juice from Kirin 920 chipset. The Octa core processor is coupled up with 3 GB RAM and is well enough for handling multi-tasking with much ease. At first I was a bit suspicious regarding its processor chipset - Kirin 920 which reportedly is their self grown chipset. I wasn't sure if the chipset will be fast enough to perfectly blend with the graphic demanding games. So, to check its capabilities, I took to some ultra HD gaming and tested some of the famous titles - Call of Duty Strike Team, Modern Combat 4 & 5, Real Racing 3, Real Boxing and an open world Gangster Vegas. I was amazed to see the buttery smooth experience with no lags at all. In MC4 and MC5, I was quite dumbstruck to see my FPS sky rocketed. So, I did a bit of online research regarding this homegrown processor. Upon seeing several benchmark reports, I got all my queries answered. The Kirin 920 is a way better than the Snapdragon's 801 chipset and shares a comparable performance with the Snapdragon's 805 chipset.

Storage & Battery

Huawei Honor 6 is powered by a removable 3000 mAh battery which can easily provide a standby time of up to 300 hours. Upon using this device with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on and immersing myself to some HD movies, it gave me an easy 5 hours backup with some juice still left in it. So, for a normal user who does up to 2 hours of web surfing and a bit of gaming, I presume the battery would easily last for over 24 hours. Now, coming to storage, it has a room for 16 GB internal storage and a microSD card can be used for further expansions of not more than 64 GB. So, for an 18k price tag, I just didn't find any loose ends to complain. Moreover, the battery gets fully charged within 90 minutes, which is much faster than many of the Androids which I have reviewed in the past. Besides, there are several power saving modes which the users can utilize to further save more power.

Audio, Sensors and Connectivity

Huawei Honor 6 features Dolby sound system and the audio is pleasant enough for all audiophiles. Unlike the Mi3, where users complaint about the poor audio, Huawei did a big leap on offering an overall good audio experience. However, I did expected an ear phone but didn't find any with the package. But I will not say it is a con as it is much better to have an overall good audio system than having a fairly good one with a not so pleasing ear phone. The Huawei Honor 6 is packed with 4 sensors - Proximity, Accelerometer, Ambient Light and Gyroscope. However, I feel temperature sensor should also be included in the list. In terms of connectivity, you will get every thing with a noticeably fast Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm audio jack for connecting the head phones.

My verdict

Upon using this amazing device for more than a month, I must say this one has nothing to complain for except a plasticky back which easily gets scratched up after some rough usage. But for that purpose, you will receive 2 scratch guards with the box, out of which one can be used for back protection. Honor 6 has a very bright, sharp and much vividly colored display which outshines from its competition. Camera is good but not the best for its category, and if you want some rich camera features, I suggest you to spend 3k - 4k more and opt for some other high-end device like HTC or Sony. But I fear if you would get the same hardware performance with them. Overall, this device is a beast in its price tag and I would love to rate it a 9 out of 10.
