IPS Panel Monitors vs. TN Panel Monitors
This is a heated debate among gamers, and to be honest it's hard for me to take a side. This is because each technology has its own advantages, and depending on your needs, you might choose one over the other.
TN monitors seem to be made for higher resolutions, but there are a few IPS screens that run at greater resolutions.
The lowest response times are always the TN technology, but again, if you know what to buy, you can get a great low response IPS monitor too.
This is the trickiest one to get right, because manufacturers don't list the input lag, most of them don't even talk about it. But generally, TN monitors have lower input lag. But all the IPS monitors listed on this page have very low input lag, comparable with TN monitors.
With the most vivid colors on the market and with the most accurate color display, the IPS monitors are the new hot item for computer graphics. Even graphic designers, who in the past had great problems with monitor calibration, are now very pleased to match real life colors on their display. Obviously, this translates in better gaming experience, if the display has no lag.
The contrast is marginally in the favor of TN monitors, but the latest IPS panels are catching up and it is hard to declare a winner. Don't get fooled by marketing hype and advertised contrast ratios of 50,000:1, they don't mean anything.
IPS are definitely the winners at this, deep black unmatched by the TN panels.
The contest is clearly won by IPS monitors, and there is no way a TN monitor could compete on this.
It's clear that in general, IPS monitors win at almost everything, the only technical aspect where TN monitors do better is at input lag and response times, which are very important for FPS. For strategy games the input lag is not that important, but a good response time is great for better overall gaming experience.
Dell Ultrasharp U2412M
Technical Specs :
The Dell Ultrasharp U2412M is a great monitor with gorgeous and accurate colors. You can view these colors from very wide angles, unlike the TN panels which are limited from this point of view. The native resolution of 1920x1200 is just right for this screen size.
The input lag is actually very decent, and if you are not an FPS gamer, this monitor should cover all your bases.
EIZO Foris FS2333-BK
Technical Specs :
This is a great gaming monitor and can be used with great success even for the most pretentious gaming applications such as FPS games. There are a few reasons for this and there aren't many IPS monitors that can be used with confidence during Titanfall, but EIZO Foris FS2333-BK is one of them. The Eizo IPS screen is probably just a little behind of TN gaming monitors, such as the Benq XL2720Z, but it has so much more to offer in terms of colors, contrast, and blacks. The mere 0.8 milliseconds signal delay, it is one of the fastest monitors, period.
The total lag is under 5 milliseconds which is the standard for any good TN gaming monitor.
What is great about this monitor are the special technological innovations, that are specifically aimed at the gaming market. It has a special chipset, specifically designed to improve the gaming experience.
Overall, this is one of the best gaming monitors in its category.
Technical Specs :
The Asus monitors have some of the best ratio between price and quality and features. In other words, you get the best bang for your buck.
This IPS monitor sells very well, not only for gaming applications but for any other application where great colors, deep black, and great viewing angles are needed. Being LED-lit it offers better contrast and brightness. The Asus MX279H is a frameless monitor, with a stunning design. The frameless design, the ultraslim profile, and the elegant look make it an eye catching device.
As a gaming monitor, it performs greatly because of its low input rate, and a low response time of 5ms.
