Complete Review of Xiaomi Redmi Note - Big and Cheap

Xiaomi is back with another product by the name Redmi Note. It has really surprised everyone with it's Mi3 and Redmi handsets, offering such advanced features for less cost. Even the Note has new features. This article gives you the complete review of Redmi Note.

After tasting a huge success with Mi3 and Redmi, Xiaomi has come up with the Redmi Note. It was launched a while back in Malaysia, Hong Kong and in China 9 months ago and has gained a good customer response. In the same way as before, Xiaomi is entering Indian markets again as a BIG product with LESS cost. I can definitely say it and everyone will agree to my statement because, if we compare the prices of other smart devices which have same features as Redmi Note, they would cost you more when compared to Note. There are many advanced features which you cannot even think of having them with this cost.

So, do not worry if you are not aware of it's features and advantages that we get by using Xiaomi's Redmi Note. I will take you through the complete details regarding Operating System, updates, camera functionality, battery life, call quality, performance and more. Here we go!

Just an Overview:

Redmi Note comes with a lot of attractive and useful features at this affordable cost. It was a surprise to everyone who thought that Xiaomi would compromise in providing such features for such cost. It has 13 Megapixel Camera and 5.5 inch display. So, it would be well enough to cover the entire palm. It also provides IPS 720 Display. The only disappointing thing here is, it still uses Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. But, the good thing is, MIUI with it's good skin hides the fact and you cannot even imagine that this is Jelly Bean OS.

Design and Display

In the same way as Redmi, Note also looks Big. But when compared to Redmi, this is hefty. It provides you 5.5 inch display and as it uses full plastic all round the Note, it weighs around 199 grams (7 Ounces). Just place it beside Moto G (1st Generation) or LG G3 or with it's previous products like Mi3 and Redmi, you will understand how big is the Redmi Note. Default color of the cover which surrounds the Note is white and you can replace it with the color of your interest. It is removable and can be replaced with other color based on your preference.

Redmi Note comes with rounded corners which adds grip to palms to hold it well. The important point for gamers is, if you play any game in the orientation of Landscape, you will have a great gaming experience. But one thing here is, the glossy plastic gives a sticky feeling after holding it for a long time and this is due to the residue of finger prints.

Camera and Battery

Coming to Camera, you can find 13 Megapixel at the back of the Note. It gives you wide-angle lens of about 28mm. The front camera is of 5 Megapixel and the back camera has Flash. It gives the experience of using a high end mobile. It's most attractive feature is macro shots and the quality of the image. Similar to Mi3, Note also keeps image capturing simple without any additional tricks and it comes in different modes like filters, HDR and Panorama. Though it's camera does not have the illuminated sensor at the backside which gives shots with low-light, I suppose it is worth buying it.

It comes with 3,200mAh battery and is removable. This is a attractive specification of this smartphone. Battery lasts for the entire day and it provides options to change power settings in order to increase the battery life based on the usage. It uses Core-Processor of Media Tek MT6592 with 1.7GHz. Xiaomi's Redmi Note is available in two versions as 1.4 GHz processor with 1 GB RAM and 1.7 GHz with 2 GB RAM.

Storage and Connectivity

Redmi Note has internal storage of about 8 GB and can be expanded up to 32 GB by inserting the SD Card through micro SD Card slot. One disappointing thing here is, it does not support 4G Connectivity, but supports Bluetooth 4.0, 3G and Wi-Fi.

Features and Software

Similar to all Xiaomi's previous handsets, Redmi Note operates on MIUI. It is the wrapper on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for Redmi Note. It does not uses latest 4.4 Kitkat. All your apps are visible on the home screen with the feature of drawer less Home Screen, which is equivalent to iOS.

drawerless home screen Note

It provides you good themes and Lite Mode which was not present in Mi3. Using this Lite Mode, you can resize your icons and is most useful for people who have poor eyesight and also who are not a tech geek. Lite Mode would be cool and perfect, as the Redmi Note is with 5.5 inch screen display.
The most important feature of MIUI of Redmi Note is, it is easy to move apps from one screen to the other. In other smart devices, we need to hold the app and move it to the corner, till the other screen comes up and release the finger. But this process has been made easy in Redmi Note. Just tap and hold the app which you want to move to the other screen, and use your other finger to slide through the screens. Whenever the screen you want appears, just release the finger. It is really an initiative addition from Xiaomi and is a challenge to competitors.

Performance is good

It comes with the "true" eight core processor. Unlike other processors which brings down their cores when high end applications are not being used, Note with Media Tek MT6592 uses all eight cores all the time. MIUI of Xiaomi is well ordered and it does not give any experience of sluggishness unlike other phones.

Call Quality is quite good

As in the same way in Xiaomi's Redmi, Note also gives good call quality. No one faces any problem while making calls and the sound is clear. Even though speakers are placed at rear, there would be no problem with the sound quality.

Price

In India, it is available at a price of around Rs. 9,000 only.

Conclusion

Good:
Xiaomi's Redmi Note is good with large display, camera is sharp, and availability of Dual- SIM, Expandable storage and most important things is, it's UI is user friendly.

Bad:
No 4G Connectivity and it runs on Android Jelly Bean but not the latest Kitkat. The glossy plastic becomes sticky after a long use.

The Bottom Line:
Redmi Note gives you all the advanced features with less cost and a great performance which can satisfy most of us. Do not expect all features of high end mobile to be with Xiaomi's Redmi Note, as it is giving you features which are a bit advanced when compared to it's cost. So, it is worth buying Redmi Note.
