How to delete Favorites from Home folder in Window 10 OS

Microsoft has released Window 10 OS technical preview to all the users to get the feedback. One can register for Windows 10 OS technical preview from the official website of Microsoft. Windows 10 OS contains more features compared to Windows 8 which will provide a new experience to all the end users. It is a sort of hybrid between the Windows 8 and earlier versions with the not liked features of Win8 excluded in this. The consumer version is expected to be released in mid of next year (i.e) 2015.

One such feature is File Explorer. It is present in task bar. It helps the user to locate all the favorite files and also helps every user to view the frequently visited files and recent files which will be very helpful to every one especially when doing any project work. Sometimes, we want to delete our frequently used files and folders due to privacy. Below is the step by step procedure to be followed to remove the frequently visited files and folders in Window 10.

First Method to delete

As soon as your computer is switched on,
  1. Go to start menu

  2. In the search box type regedit.exe and hit the enter key.

  3. You may also go to run option and type regedit.exe then hit OK button.

  4. As son as you press OK button, registry Editor window will open.

  5. Double click the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE".

  6. Under that you will "SOFTWARE" option. Double click it.

  7. You will see all the software installed in your system. Now go to "MICROSOFT" option.

  8. Go to "Windows" and then click "CurrentVersion"

  9. Press "Explorer" folder and then to "Homefolder" followed by "Namespace" and finally "DelegateFolders".

How to delete favorites, frequent files and folders

After clicking the Delegate Folder, there will be 3 entries which are as follows:
  • 3936E9E4-D92C-4EEE-A85A-BC16D5EA0819
  • This is used to delete frequently visited folders

  • 4564b25e-30cd-4787-82ba-39e73a750b14
  • This is used to delete recent files.

  • d34a6ca6-62c2-4c34-8a7c-14709c1ad938v
  • This is used to delete our favorites.

    Second Method

    1. Right click desktop and hit properties

    2. Go to start menu properties

    3. Uncheck store and display recently opened items in start menu and task bar option.

    Though second method is easier than the first, user will be more beneficial when using former method than the latter because the latter method will hide all the recently accessed files including MS word recent files, which most of the users do not prefer. However, it is left upto your choice to choose either of the method.
