Review - AsiaPower Wireless Mouse Powerclick 198

Looking for a good quality budget wireless mouse? Read our review of AsiaPower's PowerClick 198 wireless mouse. Design, build quality, price and its performance review with pictures included in this review.

My laptop's touch-pad suddenly stopped working a few days ago and left my computer useless. I now had to look for an external mouse that not only worked great but also was portable enough to travel along in my laptop bag. Since I do not play any games on my work laptop and purely use it for office purposes, I did not need a mouse with multiple buttons or extended dpi settings or killer looks. My requirements were simple - sturdy, wireless and inexpensive.

After a bit of thought and research, I finally got my hands on Asia Power's Power Click 198 wireless mouse that is not only compact and sleek in size but also performs brilliantly.

Price

At the time of writing this article an e-commerce website has this wireless mouse priced at INR 575, however, I got it at a great price of INR 419.

Design

Powerclick 198 is a tiny curvaceous little mouse that looks very appealing. The bright colour combination used on the mouse also helps it get that beautiful look. It works on a single AA battery which is part of the package. It is extremely light at 108 grams and measures roughly 10cms X 6cms X 3cms.

Build Quality

The entire mouse barring the mouse wheel is made out of plastic. The plastic used is not of great quality as expected due to the low price but gives a decent grip. The sides are flat and have a dotted design perfect for both left as well as right handed operation. Both the fingers fit well on the buttons and the additional dpi button and mouse wheel are an added bonus in my opinion.

Features:

It comes with a nano receiver which can be connected to any USB port on the laptop to make it work. There's no need to install any programs or drivers, as it is completely plug and play. This tiny little device works on 2.4 GHz frequency and gives you a wireless range of around 10 metres to work with. Apart from the usual left and right click buttons, there's also a mouse wheel that can be used to scroll around while browsing through the internet or documents.

This wireless mouse also has a dpi button just behind the wheel which lets you change the dpi settings of the mouse. It gives you 6 different dpi levels to choose from and can go upto a maximum of 1200 dpi. This mouse can be powered On or Off with the help of a button provided at the back. There's also a compartment just below it where the mouse houses a AA battery. Right above it is the optical sensor that works on any flat surface. There are also 4 plastic grips on each corner that helps the mouse slide fluently on any surface.

Performance

Since I needed a mouse that will substitute my laptop's touch-pad, I wasn't expecting anything much out of this wireless mouse. However, this mouse works as well as it looks. The mouse pointer is extremely accurate on the screen and after setting up a comfortable dpi setting using the dpi button, its performance is beyond great. I have used a few inexpensive mouse/mice in the past and the button quality I experienced on them was very cheap. On this mouse, however, both the left and right click buttons feel solid and give you a good click sound when pressed.

The mouse wheel is made out of rubber and is perfect in size. Usually manufacturers adjust the size of the wheel according to the size of the mouse which makes it extremely inconvenient to use. The wheel on this little mouse on the other hand is pretty large when compared to the overall dimensions of the mouse.

My only gripe with this mouse is the overall plastic-y feel it gives. I would've given it a perfect score had some parts of this mouse were made out of rubber. If I had an option to choose between a rubber grip and the dpi button, I would close my eyes and opt for a rubber grip.
