How to disable Start menu and switch to Start screen in Windows 10


Windows 10 gives you the flexibility to use either the traditional Start Menu or the modern Start Screen. Learn how to switch from Start Menu to the Start screen.

The default installation of Windows 10 on a laptop or desktop enables the Start Menu. However, you have the option of switching to the modern Start Screen that was introduced with Windows 8.

How to switch to Start Screen


To switch to Start Screen on a Windows 10 computer, follow the steps below:

1. Click on the Windows start icon to open the Start Menu

2. Right click on an empty area on the Live Tiles in the Start Menu.

3. Select "Properties". (You can open the Properties dialog by right clicking on the task bar too).

4. Go to the tab "Start Screen"

5. Uncheck the checkbox "Use the Start menu instead of the Start screen"

6. Click on "Ok" button.

Disable Start menu in Windows 10

You will receive a warning to save all your work and re-login to Windows. In order to take effect the changes on Start menu, you have to logout and login to Windows 10 again.
