LG G Android smart watch review

Are you looking for a review of new LG G Android smart watch? Here, you can read the detailed review about the latest LG G watch. Lets find out its new features, pros and cons.

Google introduced three Android Wear watches at the Google I/O: Samsung Gear Live, the LG G Watch and the Motorola Moto 360. Only the first two are available today and we will look at LG G Watch in this article.

LG's watch, is it a real useful addition to an Android phone or is it currently only to test the market? This is what we will try to determine in this review.

Design

LG G Watch is the one with the most rudimentary design among the three watches. We do not find rounded curves or chrome finishes, but a rectangular block of black plastic on which is fixed a plastic strap. Of course we can change the strap of LG G watch. But still, for a price of $ 249 it may be a little disappointing.

The plastic strap is still pretty well done and does not have the same trend as that of Sony Smartband. The Sony Smartband tends to pick up all the dust that passes within a meter around.

The design is reduced to its simplest appearance and it is in my opinion one of the weak points of the LG G Watch. There is no power button in this watch, so remember to have your charger with you if you want to turn off your watch for any reason.

Connectivity

Like most accessories connected today, the LG G Watch works with a Bluetooth 4.0. This connection allows you to have access not only to cellular data but also to transmit notifications of cell phones on the small screen of the LG G Watch. It doesn't support NFC and so you cannot use your phone's NFC to connect the watch.

It is not possible to charge the watch directly using a micro-USB charger, which is very disappointing. A connector is used to charge the watch which is very frustrating. However, the fact of using connector without direct opening (USB port) allows the G Watch provide resistance to water, which is appreciable.

Screen

With a resolution of 280 by 280 in a 1.65 inch screen, a pixel density of 240 dpi, the LG G Watch offers a slightly lower quality than the Samsung Gear, Gear 2 and Gear Live. We can not say that the screen of the LG G Watch is bad. It is okay for this size and is easy to read in outdoors when the brightness is increased.

LG G watch has an option to display the clock all the time. It is disappointing that the screen used is LCD IPS and not AMOLED.

LG G Watch has no light sensor, so we need to adjust the brightness manually, which can be frustrating when you go from very dark to very bright areas. If you forget to turn down the brightness before entering the theater, may dazzle your neighbors at the slightest movement.

Performance of the LG G Watch

Android Wear is very limited in its possibilities of performing tasks. Therefore there is no real concept of multitasking. Multitasking could put a strain on the CPU or memory of the watch.

In terms of watch related tasks, I have seen no lags, either in the interface or when certain actions launched, such as GPS navigation.

Operating System

Android Wear mainly uses the principle of Google Now. This may include notifications of your favorite apps, weather or information about a package being delivered.

In practice, this works quite well and I happened to be surprised by the relevance of the information provided. For example, returning from the grocery store, the watch was telling me how long I was going to go to and even offered to show the route immediately on the small screen.

To make the watch work, install the Android Wear application, available on the Play Store. It Then allow access to communications from the device.

It will be subsequently possible to configure which notifications are sent to the watch, and choose the default applications for certain actions. The user also has the option to send notifications to the watch test, to see the possibilities of the instrument.

Finally, a link takes you to the Play Store, on a dedicated Android Wear applications page. These are currently quite limited.

Conclusion

The LG G Watch is a nice product to use, and especially fun the first few days. The ability to use it with virtually all recent Android phones is a big advantage over Samsung smart watches.

However, in my opinion, Android Wear remains quite limited for the moment and not necessarily intuitive at first use. I feel clearly that this is a first version, which is not yet ripe.

In the end the main defects of the watch are not material but limited features. There is a safe bet that Google regularly update its system to add new capabilities.
