Lenovo India Unveils Ideapad Y50 to Deliver Rich Computing Experience

Lenovo India has launched Ideapad Y50 with a powerful 4th generation Intel Core i7 4710 HQ CPU, 8 GB of RAM, 1 TB of HDD in addition to a high end NVidia graphics card.

Lenovo India has launched a new laptop, Ideapad Y50 with a powerful 4th generation Intel Core i7 710 HQ CPU with 8 GB of RAM. The processor has 4 cores with 8 threads with a minimum clock speed of 2.5 Ghz. The speed will go up to 3.5 Ghz due to the built-in turbo boost technology.

The heavy processor included with Lenovo Y50 is suitable for all requirements such as office work, gaming and high end video processing. It consumes a maximum of 47W of power thus generating more heat than the 'U' series. Moreover, you can expand the memory upto 16 GB DDR3L.

The laptop also offers 1 TB (5400 RPM) of hard disk with a 15.6 inch Full High Definition (FHD) LED Slim display in addition to Intel HD Graphics 4600. I am not sure if the display is antiglare or glossy since there is no reference regarding this on the site. Normally, Lenovo will include glossy type as seen in its Y510P series.

The official Lenovo store has not specified the complete specification of the graphics card. As per the information available on the website, the laptop ships with up to NVIDIA GTX-860M discrete graphics. However, Techulator is of the opinion that these type of gaming machines ships with minimum 2 GB of GPU Memory.

Lenovo Y50 is powered with Windows 8.1 and a comparatively less powerful 4 cell 54 WH battery. According to the official Lenovo online store, Y50 ships with premium speakers with Dolby Advanced Audio, integrated optical drive and AccuType backlight Keyboard for easy and comfortable typing in low-light environments.

A main attraction of Lenovo Y50 is the inclusion of Veriface Pro face recognition software, which enable users to log in without manually typing the password. Instead, users will be logged in depending upon the facial image captured from the webcam. This will prevent unauthorized access since only the registered facial user will be able to login.

Lenovo Ideapad Y50 is priced at 76,990 INR and will be available from thedostore.com on July 30, 2014. I feel that for this huge price the laptop should be equipped with a touch screen display as it will largely benefit Windows Phone app developers.

There is no reference regarding number of USB 3 and USB 2 ports, availability of HDMI and VGA ports on the official Lenovo site.

There is no mention on the official site regarding the type (built-in or external) of battery. If the laptop contains built-in battery you need to give the laptop to service center for replacement at the time of its EOF.
