Among the Sleep: Reasons why it's going to be the scariest game ever
Among The Sleep is just in US and UK. It's going to come out in India soon. I had gotten my hands on the beta, though, and am here to share my experience with you about it.
Introduction
Imagine experiencing the horror from a child's viewpoint. How amazing and surreal that would be. Have you ever experienced something ghostly or even felt like it in your childhood? Weren't you also afraid of little things like cockroaches and mice in your childhood? Come on! Some of us still are. This is the part of the horror Among the Sleep expands and delves deep into. It's often one of the most overlooked facets of horror games, but if done right, it might as well scare the hell out of you.
You see, nobody has ever tried to expand onto what it's like to be a child in a haunted house. Sure, there have been a lot of great movies and stuff about it, but they have never tried doing that with a standpoint of an innocent kid who is not more than 3 years old. Who barely knows what situation he has gotten himself into. This is the tension which this game excels upon later in the game. It starts out smooth in a normal room where you are sleeping on the bed. You wake up and find out that there is nobody home. The cagey silence indicates that something is going on in this house, but you have no idea exactly what's going on.
Here are a few reasons why I think it's one of the most scariest game I have ever played - It looks so vivid
I am sure you have heard people saying that graphics aren't everything. There are players who are still playing Counter Strike: Source even after 15 years being lapsed since its launch. Isn't it amazing? Yes it is, but the thing is, it's an only exception. Put simply, graphics does matter and it matters a lot. For example, if you were asked to choose between Halo 3 and Halo 4, which one are you going to choose? It's a no brainer obviously. You are going to pick up the latter unless you have some other reasons to not move on to the next game with better graphics.
If you do a side by side analogy, you will find out that there is not much gameplay difference between these two games. The only difference is how graphically different both these games look. The thing is, if your game doesn't look great, it's not going to sell great no matter how good it is.
This statement stands true for all the horror games because you want to feel immersed. You want to believe that you are really there in place of protagonist surviving against the odds trying to come out unscathed. This is where Among The Sleep really shines. The graphics, the shadow effects and shades are really meticulously done. So if it's your thing, give it a shot. You are definitely not going to be disappointed. You play as a 3 years old kid
There have been a lot of games and movies in the past concentrating on adults. But how many movies or games have been focused on kids/ I promise none is the answer, because how are you going to screen a kid as a protagonist and hold the interest of gamers for a long period of time? It just sounds downright impossible feat to achieve, but it's not when you actually think about it.
As it turns out, the lack of these times of games in the market is actually one of the strongest selling points of the game. I bet that it's going to do well in the market once it comes out. By the way, it's already out in US and UK. It's going to launch in India very soon. But if you want to buy it digitally, you can go over to Steam to find out more about it and download it right now for only $10.I have played it
I had gotten a chance to play the game in the past back in September 2013 when it was still in early alpha stages and I can tell you it was one of the scariest game I had ever played. It was just like Amnesia series, another one of the best horror games. The best thing about this game is you don't have any fancy guns or swords to chop enemies off topics. You are pretty much dead if they see you. You can still save yourself by running to the nearest hiding spot. If you are spotted, though, brace yourself for a nightmarish death of your character. It's going to haunt you for a couple of days.Genuine enemies and scares
The game is based on genuine scares around the corner. It builds up the tension really gradually and once you are there, it will deliver the most horrific satisfying experience in the game. I am not going to spoil it all for you. To find out more about it, you actually have to go out and play the game for yourself.
