Lenovo and Toshiba Says Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon India Are Not Authorized Retailers
The Indian Arm of Lenovo and Toshiba recently issued an advisory stating that customers should buy their laptops and mobile deviesonly from authorized physical retailers and not from e-commernce websites such as Flipkart, Amazon India.
Lenovo and Toshiba has issued an advisory notice for all consumers stating that online retailers such as Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon India are not authorized retailers to sell their products.
The move is basically an attempt to pacify physical retailers who have been complaining about the low pricing strategy adopted by online stores to sell their products.
Previously, in 2013 Nikon India issued a similar warning and IT hardware industry body convened a meeting to discuss the steps needed to tackle the issue of online selling.
Toshiba India, which is struggling to make profits due to outdated hardware configurations also issued warning to e-commerce websites stating that they should not pass promotional offers and schemes which are available only for consumers buying physically.
When contacted, Flipkart responded that all Lenovo products sold on Flipkart are original and come with standard Lenovo India warranty. You can always reach us if you face any issue while claiming your warranty.
According to Snapdeal, which is a marketplace site, all products sold on the site are original and brand new with warranty. Moreover, the required documents of all sellers are duly verified before establishing relationship.
From my point of view, it is highly unfair to ask eCommerce sites to stop selling products. After all, customers always bargain hard in physical stores as well.
