How to get extra storage in Microsoft OneDrive (formerly, SkyDrive)

Microsoft recently rebranded their SkyDrive cloud storage service to a new name - OneDrive. Behind the scenes, there is nothing much changed. You will continue to see all of your files and folders from your SkyDrive account in your OneDrive.

1. Free 100 Gb space in OneDrive for first 100,000 people to login (expired)

To create some buzz, Microsoft offered 100Gb free space for first 100,000 users who sign into their OneDrive account. That number was met on the same day and the offer is no longer valid. I was travelling on the day one and so wasn't fortunate to login to to grab my 100 Gb space.

If you are one of those unlucky guys like me, Microsoft is still offering a few ways to get extra free storage, in addition to the 20Gb free space given by default.

2. Get 3 Gb space for camera roll

This offer is the easiest one to grab. Anyone can install the OneDrive app on their mobile device and get free 3Gb space on their OneDrive. Just download and install the OneDrive app on your Windows/iPhone/Android devices and the 3 Gb space will be granted to you, when you turn on the photo backup option.

3. Win up to 100Gb space through OneDrive Instant Win Promotion

This offer is valid only for residents of USA, Puerto Rico and Canada. To avail this offer, you must walk into a physical Microsoft store and login to your Microsoft OneDrive account to prove that you have an account there. The official rules states that you will have to login using one of the devices provided by the store but I guess you may be able to do the same on your own device.

4. Use a promo code and get extra space

There are few promo codes circulating in the web, that will give you a lot of extra space in the OneDrive. Search in Google and I am sure you will find a few working promo codes.

5. Refer your friends and get 500Mb each

For each friend you refer to OneDrive, you will get 500 Mb extra space. You may have to rush before everybody else create their own accounts.
