How to setup call forward and redirect in Android phones
Do you want to know how to set call forwarding and call redirecting in Android phones? Read these Android tips to make the best value out of your Android devices.
Call forwarding and automatic call redirecting are very useful options for your Android phones. For example, when you are at home, you may want all your calls to be diverted to your home number so that you can comfortably use the speakerphone. Or, if you use 2 phone numbers but want to carry only one phone at a time, you can set the other phone number to divert all the calls to the primary phone you are carrying.
In my case, I am using 2 phone numbers - one for personal use and another one for business use. However, I want to carry only the personal phone with me when I am going out. So, I have configured the secondary phone to redirect the calls to the primary phone, if the call is not answered within a few rings.Step by step instructions to setup call forwarding in Android phones
Follow the steps below to configure call forwarding and call redirect:
1. Tap on the phone icon in your Android phone.
2. Tap on the 3 dots that represent the context menu, located in the bottom right
3. Select "Settings" from the above menu.
4. Click on "Call settings".
5. In the next screen, scroll down and choose the option "Call forwarding".
6. Your Android phone will retrieve the call forwarding settings from your cell phone provider. It may take few seconds to retrieve the call forwarding options from the provider. When the next dialog opens, choose appropriate settings. You can choose the phone number to which you want the calls to be forwarded when your phone is busy, you are not answering the calls and when your phone is out of range.Call redirecting options
Depending on your mobile phone provider, you may have one or more of the following options:
1. Always forward: Choose this option, if you want all calls to this number to be forwarded to an alternate phone number.
2. Forward when busy: If this option is selected, all calls to your phone when you are on another call will be redirected to another number you specify.
3. Forward when unanswered: When this option is selected, all calls will be diverted to another number if the phone is not answered after several rings.
4. Forward when unreachable: If your phone is out of reach with no signals, then the calls will be redirected to another number.
Warning: In my personal experience, when I selected the options 2, 3 and 4, many of my calls were getting redirected to the other number. I think when the signals are weak, instead of making multiple attempts to reach my phone, it was simply getting redirected to the alternate number.Alternate options to set call forwarding
Depending on your device and version of Android, you may find the Call forwarding options in another place. If you don't find the options I mentioned in the above steps, then swipe down from the top to pull down the menu. Then click on the "Settings" icon on the top right corner. In the "Settings" screen, look for "Call settings" or "Call forwarding" options.
If you don't find the above options, then you may need to setup call forwarding by dialing certain codes, which depends on your provider. Please contact your provider to find the special codes to dial to setup various options.
