Easiest Way to Find all Broken Links in Your Wordpress Blog
Broken links always have adverse effects in a blog or website. Broken links can be formed in many ways. It could be generated as a result of a post's removal, deletion of a page, edit in the post permalink, or anything. Search engine doesn't like broken links much. Users behave no different. They will find it irritating when they find a broken link and may leave your blog at once. This could increase the bounce rate of visitors on your blog. The lower the bounce rates are, the better your blog is. Not only bounce rate, there are many other factors that point out broken links are bad for your blog.
There are hundreds of tools online which offers detection of broken links. And some of them even help us by producing a report of all the broken links. But in Wordpress blogs, the detection is made easier by the awesome plugin, Broken Link Checker, which can be found at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/broken-link-checker/.
I've been using this Wordpress plugin for a while and found out that it is a handy tool for detection and removal of broken links from our blog. With the rise of Google Panda, the removal of broken links from your blog has become a necessity.
Detect Broken Links
Many people who started using this plugin has found out that their blog contained many outbound links which were either pointing to a non-existing page or wrong URL. Since this plugin allows us to detect broken links in a comprehensive way, it is often helpful to get the job done faster.
It would definitely be a hard job for a blogger to manually detect and remove all the broken links all by him. Literally, it would take him years to do that. But this plugin integrates with the Wordpress Dashboard and makes our job real easy and quick.
The plugin shows us how many links are broken in total and how many are redirects. You can use the functions such as Edit URL, Unlink Text, or Mark The URL As Not Broken all in one place. The plugin offers quite sophisticated features, and those who want to examine it deeply can start playing with the plugin right now.
Suppose your blog is very big, and you don't have the patience or time to stay up days in front of the plugin to fix the broken URLs. Then you can easily no follow all the broken links at once which will not harm your blog in any way but helps to keep your blog a 'good guy' in front of search engine bots. This powerful feature comes in handy when you have a lot of link backs in your posts.
But there is an alternative if you don't want to experiment with 'nofollowing' all the broken links in your blog at once. You can add a CSS strikethrough instead. It would help the visitor read the text and see the link but alarms them not to click the link. If you don't feel like writing the CSS for that then here is it:
In my opinion this is a very useful plugin and I recommend it to all the Wordpress bloggers. This plugin offers a powerful way to detect broken links in a few clicks. Use the plugin and let us know how you managed with the removal of broken links in your Wordpress blog.
