Airtel Digital TV Review: Is it better than Tata Sky ?

A number of DTH providers have pooped up in last few years. This makes it hard for Indian customers to choose one. This post compares Airtel digital TV with TATA sky.

DTH services are expanding to even smaller cities in India from the metros. They are replacing the cable connections very fast as they provide more flexibility to the user. Airtel Digital TV is one of the most popular and heavily advertised DTH in India. If you are doubtful regarding whether to go for Airtel DTH services in India, this post will certainly help you. This post provides detailed review of Airtel Digital review and contains information about its installation, pricing, channel packs and recharges. This post also brings comparison between Airtel DTH TV and other DTH providers in India like Tata Sky.

Airtel Digital TV: Advantages and Disadvantages

Airtel is one of the most trusted and reputed brand in India. It is already giving tough competition to BSNL in the field of broadband in India. At such, it is obvious for Airtel to have superior features in its DTH so as to get an edge over the competitors. Following are the advantages of Airtel DTH TV:
1)Airtel Digital TV offers DVD quality video.
2)Another merit of Airtel DTH is that it comes with universal remote. This remote is common for both DTH and TV. You will not find this feature in any other DTH provider in India. Certainly makes things easier and simpler for users.
3)There is a huge variety of channels available on Airtel Digital TV. Moreover, there are some HD channels as well but user has to pay additional charges for them. In fact, a good news for Airtel DTH subscribers is that they have recently shifted to a new satellite with more transponders. This means that it will be able to add more channels to different packs. In addition to the TV channels, users also get access to 24 radio channels.
4)Another benefit of Airtel Digital TV over Tata Sky DTH is the user interface. Navigation is much easier and the software also runs faster in case of Airtel.
5)One of the common issues with all the DTH services is that rain disturbs their functionality. The rain fade issue is minimum is case of Airtel.
6) Another advantage of Airtel DTH is the self-care portal. This allows the user to add or modify channels or recharge the account. This feature is missing in most of the DTH providers in India including Tata sky.
Just like the other DTH services in India, Airtel DTH also has some limitations.

Following are the disadvantages of Airtel DTH:
1)First shortcoming is the price. No doubt, it offers premium picture quality but the price of channel packs is on higher side. If the consumer opts for other alternatives like Tata Sky, he can save some money every month.
2)The interactive services provided by the company can be improved further.
3)Recently, reviews containing bad customer care of Airtel Digital TV have also hit various websites. Consumers are complaining that post sales customer care is not that good these days.

Airtel Digital TV Review: Pricing, Channels and Recharge

The exact amount to be paid to get a new connection of Airtel Digital TV depends on the type of connection you want. For instance, you can get Airtel Digital TV (SD) with ultra pack for Rs 2090. In case of Airtel Digital TV (SD) with ultra, you will have to pay Rs 3100. The price also differs as per the location of the user (different price for people in south). Again, there are a number of packs with different price tags available with Airtel Digital TV. One can get the updated details about the channels packs and pricing from the official Airtel website. So far as the recharge is concerned, one can recharge from official website or through the self-care portal.

Airtel's sales representative Jaspreet called me and sold me an HD DTH plan with 1 month mega pack for Rs.1750/-. When I got an SMS from Airtel it said Eco Sports Pack Activated for consumer id 3016253687. When I called your call center your customer service representatives were rude and then transferred my call to an idiot senior who abruptly disconnected my call twice, sheer unprofessionalism. Airtel is full of cheats, false sales representatives & unprofessional customer support executives.
I repent my decision of buying Airtel DTH and I want to disconnect my plan and want my money back ASAP. Failing which I am launching consumer court complaint and come what may I will fight till the end with Airtel cheats.

Thank you Kalpesh for your informative post.

I made sure my decision of going either with Tata Sky or Videocon and not with others. Even when I was looking for internet, I finally chose BSNL cable internet than all others.

I am Hitesh Agja from Ahmedabad. I want to let people know about very poor service by airtel. Few days back I moved my dish on same terrace from once place to another and for that airtel charged me Rs. 500. Now I am getting No Signal Error and they are asking Rs. 150 for their engineer visit. This should be part of airtel's service to cater this. But I think they don't care about their customer. Very poor customer service after sale. Even if I pay Rs. 150 today and If same problem occurs after 20 days they will again charge Rs 150 for that and there is no guarantee about up time. Service may interrupt anytime. I would strongly recommend not to go for airtel if you have not bought. If you have extra money then only buy Airtel DTH.

Airtel DTH, What a service after sale. I am frustrated.

Thanks for such a poor experience.

Say no to Airtel
1)The worst service
2) People never respond
3) No offers
4) Without notice, they will add packages and they will chargeth according to that
5) Minimum recharge amount is very high. Other DTH services, you can also recharge per day.
6) If you do not recharge within the time limit, it adds extra cost
So never take Airtel DTH. Thanks
