Microsoft IT India Announces the Guardian App for Women's Safety

Recently, Microsoft announced an application called Guardian, which ensures safety for women and helps you stay relaxed that your dear ones are not in danger. Equipped with instant SOS facility and much more, Guardian is a great app to have. Scroll down to read more about it.

In the last one year, a lot happened in India. Major rape cases kept the newspapers flooded and so many more kept coming up. Safety for women became a major issue. In places like Delhi and Bangalore where women believe they are not safe and cannot go for late night outings, there's a feeling that something needs to be done for the sake of women's security. Now, government has been trying to do lots of stuff on this matter as it seems. However, it doesn't seem enough.

Now, police cannot do everything. It's felt that the initiative needs to come from the victimized section as well. Women today are being advised to learn martial arts and fighting skills and carry pepper spray. Parents now teach their daughters how to understand when and where to get out if a feeling of hostile situation arises and how to handle the situation bravely and cleverly. In the midst of all suggestions and implementations, it seems the information sector also wanted to do something new.

After some developers brought in mobile applications like Nirbhaya and others, it was the Microsoft India team which came up with their own application named Guardian.

December 26 was the day when Raj Biyani, Managing Director of Microsoft IT India launched this application exclusively developed for Nokia phones running Windows OS.

How to use the Guardian app for Windows Phone

If you have a phone running on Windows Phone OS, having the Guardian application on your phone is a good idea. Apart from all the value added services and applications running on your latest Windows phone, having the Guardian application can be an added benefit. You can stay sure that your dears ones are safe and secure and you won't have to worry calling them up every now and then. Taking under consideration the fact that one cannot compromise with Women's safety nowadays, this application which can be downloaded for free, can be a great aid for you.

In order to make sure your mother, sister or daughter is safe, all you need to do is add up the names of friends, family members and security groups into the settings of the apps. You can use the existing contact list. Next, you need to select the particular contacts, the friends and relatives you believe will be helpful when you need them to. In the times of distress, in times of emergency situations, all you need to do is use a dedicated SOS button to alert your dear ones. Guardian will send out SMSs and emails to the selected contacts. If you have selected contacts with Facebook accounts, Guardian will instantly also post to private Facebook groups.

These features are present in almost every application which boasts to be efficient in times of distress, and that they are capable of ensuring safety to the one who carries the phone. But an extra feature present in this application is that you can track location of the person carrying the phone in real time. With the Microsoft Windows Azure cloud services and efficient Bing Map APIs coming at aid, this application lets you alert security authorities and lets medical teams track the user as well. An additional claim by Microsoft IT team is that this application enables the phone to be traced even if the phone is broken. Furthermore, the application is also capable of recording video with a single touch. Now, such videos can be very helpful and can be used as evidence later on.

This application was developed by the Microsoft IT team but the fun about it, or better say the good thing about this application is it was developed by the Microsoft team in the garage, in kind of leisure time. They say Microsoft encourages its developers to put into use their creativity in the Microsoft garage in their free time. Well, it seems they haven't been of waste.

No doubt there are many applications like this in the market. But what makes Guardian real different is its ability to let you trace the user in real time. Use a single button and when you're alerted, being able to track the person can be real helpful. Besides being able to alert the authorities, one doesn't have to wait hours to be able to do something from one's own grounds. Our verdict is if you have a Windows Phone, do not think twice before downloading this free app. After all, after having witnessed everything that happened during the last twelve months, particularly, the loss of Nirbhaya, you don't want history 'like that' to repeat itself, do you. Stay happy, stay secure.

Thanks for letting us know about the app. Nice review, you talk a lot about safety. The only thing I didn't find out from the app review, and I would like to, is what button exactly do you need to press in the case of emergency? Also, some screenshots would be good. Otherwise, I would probably want to download the app.
