As you already know if you didn't setup any mail in your android mobile phone then the default email is Gmail. If you try to share any data or any file, along with the sharing options like Bluetooth, Picassa, Sms and Gmail will get listed. Basically Gmail is IMAP so it takes more time to process and it consumes more data to synchronize with Google email server.
To avoid this situation I prefer to use POP3 mail account for my Android phone, because you can download only headers of mails to check where the mails are important or not. If a particular mail is important you can download whole mail later. So this will take less data processing compare with Gmail.
If you use default setup mail that is Gmail it will synchronize every time you open your mail account from your Android mobile phone. That drains your mobile battery and it will update each and every folder in the account. If you setup POP3 account then this won't happen and you can save your battery life.
Below I will explain how to setup a POP3 mail account in your Android mobile phones, to setup POP mail you can use your Gmail or yahoo mail or hotmail or you can use your own custom domain email. In below images I strike my mail id. So please note that.
STEP - 1 : Email Client Wizard to create POP3 Account
To create POP3 account for your android mobile you first need to click on "Email" tab in your mobile phone. You can't find it check it by click on grid options. There you can find it. The icon is show in below image and after clicking it you will get a prompt as show in below figure. It will ask you to choose an email provider for this POP account. There you have given email providers like Gmail, AOL, Yahoo mail, Hotmail and others. You need to click on "others" to create POP account.
STEP – 2
Even though you can select other options like Yahoo mail or Hotmail, you should not do that, because those providers can restrict android to access your custom settings. So I suggest you to choose "others".
After clicking on "others" option you will be getting screen as shown in below image. In given spaces enter your email id and password respectively. That email id of yours can be Gmail or yahoo mail, enter full mail id. For example your mail id is Gmail and it is email@example.com, then you should enter same mail id in first box and password in second box.
Then below you have 2 options one is Next and other one is Manual Setup. If you click on Next options then you cannot able to change your mail server settings. I suggest you to click on "Next" option to create POP3 Email.
STEP – 3
Then you will get redirected to a page as show in above image. There you will be asked to choose either "POP3" or "IMAP". We want to create POP3 mail, so choose "POP3" from this menu.
STEP – 4
After selecting "POP3" as your account type then you will be asked to enter POP3 account server name and other details as show in below figure. As it told you earlier if your email id is firstname.lastname@example.org then your POP3 server name becomes email@example.com. If you're Email ID belongs to hotmail use pop3 in front of your mail id. If you are using yahoo mail then you need to have Yahoo Pro account to activate POP3 server for android mobile. You can leave port no as default value or you can set it to 995. The default security type is SSL/TLS. Don't change it. Let it be like that only. Click never option under delete email from server, because you don't want to delete your emails.
STEP – 5
After selecting all the options in above step, click next then your android mobile client checks for all the setting correctness. If all is well then it process to next step. Otherwise you will be prompted to fill the missing details. You will be asked to enter outgoing setting. Here you need to enter SMTP server details. Your SMTP server name becomes adding SMTP and dot before your mail id. Default port will be 587 and it is supportable for yahoo, hotmail and Gmail. So leave it alone. Leave Security type as STARTTLS. Check the box "require sign in" and enter your email id and password in next fields as shown in below figure.
STEP – 6
After clicking next you will be redirected to add your default signature. Click on "signature" and enter your signature and tick on default account. This tells your android mobile phone that whenever you send an email then it will be send from this mail only.
