Best projectors for converting your drawing room into theatre

With the rise of affordable projectors, anyone can buy one and get a cinema like experience at home. This article tells the features of some of the best projectors available in market.

If you are a movie lover, you would love to have a big screen. Though the screen size of television sets has increased up to 90 inch, not all these sets are worth their high price. So, the other option is that you buy a projector which suits your budget and have a cinema like experience at your home. Initially, projectors were used only for business presentations and classroom studies but things have changed now. Since past few years, projectors are widely used in homes. There is a wide range of projectors in market and some of these are very affordable too. This article talks about some of the best projectors in market.

BENQ W750

With its 100-inch large screen, the entry level BenQ W750 gives 3D entertainment at an affordable price. The company claims that W750 can project even a 300" image.

benq

Unlike most 3D projector systems, BenQ W750 uses DLP technology which allows saving money by extending the battery life up to 50% in the Eco-mode. Instead of two, it requires only a single video feed projection for digital signals. There are dual HDMI 1.4 ports and a single connectivity HDMI interface to Blu-ray player & PS3 games. The in-built 10 W audio power is impressive. The contrast ratio is 13000:1 and the brightness is 2500 ANSI lumens. The aspect ratio is 16:9. Lamp life is one of the primary considerations when buying a projector. The extra-long lamp life of 6500 hours (in economy mode) saves money by reducing the frequency of lamp replacement.

The drawback of W750 is that it supports a maximum resolution of only 1280 x 720 pixels. Clearly, the images will not be full HD. Overall, W750 is a decent projector in this price range. Probably no other entry level projector stands up to this mark. The company bundles one 3D glasses set for free.

ViewSonic Pro8200

This 3.8 kg entry level projector has very good placement flexibility. It is easy to shift and maintain. It uses DLP technology for high picture quality. It uses BrilliantColor technology for sophisticated 7-segment colors, sharp graphics and high video quality. The zoom range (1:2:1) is high but there is no lens shift. The images have 2000 Lumens brightness and 4000:1 contrast ratio. Dual 10 W speakers give a decent sound quality. In normal mode, it gives a lamp life of 4000 hours and in economy mode, it is 6000 hours. The company offers a 3 year warranty on the product but only 1 year warranty is given on lamp.

EPSON TW-8100

This is a full HD projector with a brightness of 2400 ANSI Lumens brightness, 1920x1080 resolution, 10000:1 contrast ratio and exceptionally vivid colors. The image size ranges between 30" and the standard 300". In normal mode, the projector gives a lamp life of 4000 hours which are increased to 5000 in the economy mode. There are two HDMI inputs. Users get a manual lens shift mechanism to fine tune the focus when the projection is not leveled. What I liked about TW-8100 were its light 3D glasses which are probably the lightest in market. Its split screen functionality which allows projecting two images at the same time is extremely useful. If you have a wall for projector, you can watch a cricket match and a serial both at the same time.

Sony VPL VW 1000ES

Sony has come up with an outstanding product in form of VPL VW 1000ES. Let me tell you that it is the only 4K projector in market. The 4K projector gives ultra-HD images with resolution of 4096x2160. This is four times the resolution offered by a standard HD projector. The image size ranges between 60" and the standard 300". There are two HDMI inputs. The images are rich in detail but the brightness of 2000 ANSI Lumens is not very high. Another drawback is that VPL VW 1000ES does not support 3D, in case you want. Color management is limited and black levels are not as good as that in other latest projectors. The highlight of the projector is its dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 which is simply unbelievable.

Acer K135 and K355 projectors

Acer has recently launched portable K135 and K355 projectors in its Travel Series range. Both the projectors have similar features and look but cater to different segments. They have an instant on/off feature, 1280x800 pixels resolution, 30000 hours lamp life, multiple connectivity ports (D-sub, HDMI, composite, etc.) and 10,000:1 contrast ratio. Without even turning on the computer, MS Office or PDF files can be projected by using a micro SD card reader or built-in USB. Their high picture quality comes from the use of DLP and LED lamp technology. The only differentiating feature is that the 430 grams K135 gives a brightness of 500 Lumens while the 1.4 kg K355 gives 1000 Lumens brightness but this differentiation affects the prices dramatically.
