If you are a you should know how to write a good About page is a difficult exercise. But what constitutes a good About page? Here is the path one can follow in the preparation of this page.
Take a sheet of paper and a pen
Before you start, body and soul, in the text editor of WordPress, take a little time to think and organize what your About page will hold. I advise you to take an A4 sheet and make an array of four boxes. In each of these boxes, briefly write down ideas that come to mind regarding the following points:
Who are you
Introduce yourself simply. A blog is a space for exchange and visitors like to know who is behind the blog before interacting with it. Tell your story. This is one of the most important points, show that you're not a machine but rather a person with flesh and bones. Do not indulge in telling your life history as it has no relation with your editorial.
What is your expertise
After the introduction side, put your skills to light. What is your background? Why a visitor should we bother to read your articles? What do you know? What do you bring? What skills do you possess?
Why you created this blog
What are the objectives of your blog? What is it? Whether you want to share? What do your visitors gain by reading it? What goals did you set?
How to contact you
The latter is the easiest to write. Indicate the different ways to contact you. This corresponds to the contact page and links to your profiles on social media.
Get to writing
Now that you have gathered all the answers on your paper, it is high time to write about this famous page. This is not a simple blog post; this is the window of your shop.
You must also determine what the purpose of this page is. It must be more than a page layout. Your visitors will use this page to determine weather or not it's worth coming back to your blog.
Take your precious sheet of paper and proceed in order, the words should come one after the other.
Some useful tips for writing a good About Page
• Add a photo!
• Be transparent. Say what you really want from your blog
• Use humor to put your visitors at ease
• Put yourself in the place of your reader to identify the correct points
• And always employ a call to action.
A call to action is what you want your visitors to do once they have read your About page. You can ask them to sign up for your newsletter if you have one, to follow you on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc, to subscribe to your RSS feed or even send you a postcard!
