Samsung Repp - Features, Review, Verdict and Price: Can a Samsung Ever Be Not Popular?

You got it right: Can a samsung phone ever be not popular?. Well, this article is all about Samsung Repp, a not so popular phone in the International Market. Read on.

Well, recently wrote stuff about Kyocera DuraPro, the Alcatel Venture, another one from Kyocera, the Kyocera Hydro XTRM, one from LG, to name it LG Envoy II and the ZTE Director. These days I'm making a list of phones which are not so popular in the international market but are available in the US. But would you believe if I include a name into this very list from a manufacturer which does the Galaxy series? Yes, you're right. It's a Samsung make. Well, it's called the Samsung Repp.

So, let's begin!

Features of Samsung Repp: Not to good, not too bad

The Samsung Repp ain't a recent launch. It was launched when Android was still gaining on the market. Unlike the Jelly Bean these days, we then had the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and Samsung Repp, which was launched in the month of November of 2011, ran on it. Following are the features of Samsung Repp.

Samsung Repp
  • Design of Samsung Repp

  • Will you agree if I say a smartphone has a resolution of 320 x 480? Well, I wouldn't, for these days we have the Full HD available in screen sizes as that of 4.5 to 5 inches. It just doesn't look tight. Talking about the Samsung Repp specifically, I didn't like the design too much. One of those things I don't like about touchscreen phones are that you actually don't have too many options when it comes to the design of the phone. Consider other designs, the candybar, flip or the slider models and what diversity lies there. But that doesn't mean there aren't beautiful phones out there with the touchscreen. I love the way they've done the Xperia Z and the iPhone 5, I just do. But when you talk of the Samsung Repp, which is also known officially as Samsung SCH-R680, the design looks very similar to most of Samsung's Android smartphone and true to my own heart, I'm totally bored off with the way they're doing smartphones - The Samsung. The phone comes in a dimension of 110 x 57 x 12.2 mm (4.33 x 2.24 x 0.48 in) and weighs 105 grams. Though that's not too much to carry, it won't make you too proud to carry or flaunt around. It's not attractive, not to me at least. And maybe this is the reason they didn't have it in India and it didn't really do too well.

  • Display of Samsung Repp

  • The Samsung Repp has a not-so-extraordinary display of 3.2 inches in size and poor pixels per inch density of 180. The overall screen resolution is 320x480, which means the display of the phone has an aspect ratio is 3:2 which I don't really love. I'd rather like something like the iPhone 5, something with a little of widescreen feeling, you see. I believe the screen is not at all tempting enough to even give a look, would haven't been even then down in the 2011 when we had better looking phones. After all it is always the screen which happens to be the face of the phone. The TFT capacitive touchscreen didn't really have too much to offer.

  • Battery Backup of Samsung Repp

  • As the Samsung Repp runs on Android, it does require battery, a lot of battery. Well, the Repp won't disappoint you with its 8 hours average talk time and approximately 13 days of standby time. Well, that's just to speak of, I mean official stuff. We all know how long an Android thing lasts. I've seen guys carrying a separate laptop with them just to make sure they don't run out of charge on their Android smart bees. But I guess Repp's 1500 mAh is enough, especially when all it has to power is a 320x480 display.

  • Hardware on Samsung Repp

  • Well, weave already talked about the display, haven't we? Talking about hardware, there a single core 800 MHz processor driving the Samsung Repp. And I think that's enough.

  • Camera, Multimedia and Storage features of Samsung Repp

  • Repp again does not have much to brag about when talking about camera and multimedia features. All it has is an outdated 3.2 MP camera which can be useful enough in snapping stills of 2048x1536 size but that's it. You don't have secondary camera and you don't have HD recording. Obviously, that's not something Samsung had ever promised of, considering the price of the machine. The Repp definitely supports a wide variety of format support for audio and video playback and has average audio quality. Talking about the storage onboard, you get a 2 GB bundled card with support for microSD expansion. You can use it to expand the phone's storage to as much as 32 GB. Well, I was just trying to exaggerate a bit, that's what 95% of phones promise these days. But the fact is, when you load on a 32 GB chip, it lags down. Things slow down so badly you feel you were better off without it.

  • Connectivity and Other Features of Samsung Repp

  • The phone has a lot to offer, gladly, when talking of connectivity features. When I was bouncing my eyes on everything else it had to offer me, I was actually nervous but then the WiFi hotspot feature which is something I enjoy, definitely made me happy. Yes, you got WiFi, EVDO upto 2.4 mbps, the third version of Bluetooth and all those regular features ut there. Well, there's accelerometer, proximity sensor, compass, all more of necessities than luxury. You've got SNS Integration, organizer, editors on the phone for both image and video. It offers you a document viewer so you can now open your office files comfortably on the phone itself. Then, there's everything that's just so regular, like the YouTube app which one can download from the Play Store anyway. There's Picasa, Gtalk and more of everyday apps.

    Overall review of Samsung Repp

If you ask me, it's just another regular Android phone. Nothing new to offer, the Samsung Repp may fit users who are crazy about Android in a low budget.

    Price of Samsung Repp
Since the Samsung Repp ain't available in India, price of Samsung Repp in the US would be something around $95. I guess if Samsung decides to bring it out to the Indian populace, price of Samsung Repp in India would end at something around Rs. 6000. That's just a guess, no official data.
