Alcatel Venture - Features, Review, Verdict and Price: Touch and Type Lowers the Hype?
In this article, I try to mention the features, give a review, my personal verdict about Alcatel Venture. The phone is a touchscreen one and also combines a qwerty keypad and runs an old version of Android.
Well, Alcatel is one of those brands I consider most unheard of. I'm sure most people in India do not know about the brand in the first place. This makes this brand, and hence all its products, specifically smartphones and feature phones kind of worthy enough to be considered as one of those most unpopular phones on planet.
In this article, I'm about to talk of a phone which is in fact so unpopular that even the official website of Alcatel fails to recognize its own product. The name of the phone is Alcatel Venture and it is as they say a smartphone. Well, it runs on Android 2.3 and was released in the month of March 2012.
Features of Alcatel Venture
Besides being one of the most unpopular phones on the planet, the Alcatel Venture has a few features, though not so prominent that it may get an edge over others. But since we're talking about it today, I'll like to mention a bit about it's features.Design of Alcatel Venture
Well, the design of Alcatel Venture is simple and sweet. It has a not-so-well-spaced-qwerty keypad and comes in a dimension of 4.70 x 2.30 x 0.49 inches (119 x 58 x 12 mm). Weighing around 122 grams, the Alcatel Venture doesn't seem to be too stressing in the pockets.Display of Alcatel Venture
The phone isn't a Sony/Samsung make, hence they've not dared to come up with a gigantic 5 incher display. In fact the Alcatel Venture only features a 2.8 inches touchscreen display which has a very poor pixel per inch density of 143 ppi with an overall resolution of 240 x 320. I remember this was the exact resolution of a few Sony Ericsson phones that my elder brother had purchased few years back. Well, to be candid, it looked clean and well then, but now, with the Galaxy and Xperia series to lure you off, I don't know what to say.Battery Life of Alcatel Venture
The battery of Alcatel Venture seems to be on an average ride. As per Phonearena stats, the phone can stand up to 4 hours when you are in an ongoing conversation and may last as long as twelve days when just let to standby. I think this is not too bad but with the kind of specs and the kind of phone it is, I was expecting a little more from it. The battery is a Lithium ion 1300 mAh one, removable.Hardware in Alcatel Venture
The Alcatel Venture runs on a single core Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 MSM7627 processor, which works at the maximum frequency of 600 Mhz, which I guess is not too much. It packs a half gigabyte RAM and does support intake of microSD cards. It usually comes bundled with a 2 GB card. However, the storage can be expanded to a maximum of 32 GB which I think is quite sufficient, though I suspect it'll make the phone sluggish enough to hang at frequent intervals.Camera in Alcatel Venture
The Alcatel Venture has an average two megapixels camera with an LED flash. You can take stills and as well capture videos, though may not be as impressed with either of them as the video captured can be at a max of 480p. There seems to be a lack of image stabilization, hence the camera seems futile.Connectivity and Multimedia Features in Alcatel Venture
The Alcatel Venture can play MP3 files, lets you sort songs by album, artists, playlists and features album art cover and background playback. The phone supports Bluetooth and WiFi and OTA sync. It supports POP3 and IMAP4 protocols for exchange, offers Wi-fi and assistive GPS as well.
Review of Alcatel Venture
Besides being not-so-popular, there seems to be a flock of cons that we can talk about as compared to the pros which are definitely much less in count. The low pixel density screen and the slow processor seem to yield a poor android experience, definitely. Again the camera lacks autofocus, so snapping won't be that exciting on the phone. It also lacks an ambient light sensor. This means that you won't be able to save the battery that much as the phone won't be able to automatically adjust brightness levels depending upon the ambient/surrounding conditions. Then there is no front camera. Above all, the phone is not GSM, it only supports CDMA networks.
If you ask me, I'd say a no go, but then those who think the phone fits in their budget may definitely switch up for it.
Price of Alcatel Venture in India
I apologize but I haven't been able to fetch for you the precise market price of the phone but I guess the price of Alcatel Venture in India if you buy from the US, should be around 6k.
