Well, this article is about Kyocera Hydro XTRM, a phone that has got the features of the class but fails to gather international attention. That is perhaps the reason it is being listed as one of those least known phones worldwide. Do not blame the baby, I warn, if the father is something you don't trust. The brand Kyocera, is something surely of which Indians haven't heard as much as they have heard of Samsung and Apple and Videocon even, to mention.

Features of Kyocera Hydro XTRM: A Plethora of It!

Well, to speak of the features we have on board, this phone is something work looking at. I don't know if it stands a rivalry against the Xperia Z or the iPhone 5, but it definitely has its own stand. It does stand somewhere, but in the international market? Well, we don't really know where. In this article, I'll first leave off few main features and will then cover some special features, to speak of, under a review of my own.

  • Design of Kyocera Hydro XTRM

  • The phone is a simple touchscreen. Released in the June of 2013, this phone comes in a dimension of 4.88 x 2.52 x 0.42 inches (124 x 64 x 11 mm) and weights 139 grams, which I think is pretty easy on the pockets.

  • Display of Kyocera Hydro XTRM

  • The Kyocera Hydro XTRM simply boasts a 4 incher display with a pixel per inch density of 233 which though is good, but does not give a phone an extra edge over things especially when there are giants with 5 inches out there, now every day. The phone has multitouch functionality, which means you can use all your fingers to enjoy zooming pictures and all that. It has got a light sensor which will adjust your brightness levels, need of the day, especially when you're dealing with Android. There is a proximity sensor which will disable the display for inputs during calls and stuff. And to add to that the screen is totally scratch resistant. The screen resolution of the phone is 480x800, again nothing extraordinary when we hear of full HD phones each day.

  • Battery Life of Kyocera Hydro XTRM

  • Now there is something extraordinary with this one, the battery life. I wouldn't say it can last for a lifetime, but going by the stats, the battery lasts longer than the average android smartphone. According to Phonearena, the battery yields you a talktime of around 13 hours, which I think is enough to drain my balance, before the battery may drain out! When on 3G, it can give you a standby time of 17 days and around 13 days when on 4G, which I think personally is pretty much impressive!

  • Hardware Features in Kyocera Hydro XTRM

  • Well now we have something to brag about. The Kyocera Hydro XTRM runs on an exotic Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset assisted by a Dual Core 1.2 Ghz Krait processor which together help the Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.2 version) survive on it. To add to all the beauty in there, there is the Adreno 225 GPU to aid you with the graphics. Thanks to the much capable GPU, now you can play TempleRun and Angry Birds without jerks.

The Kyocera Hydro XTRM is equipped with Accelerometer and compass too.

  • Camera in Kyocera Hydro XTRM

  • This Kyocera baby goes well off with the 5 MP camera which can yield you pics with max resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. Thanks to the autofocus and LED flash, now you can secure all your best moments in just few taps. The camera offers Geo-tagging facility and allows you to capture high quality videos too. Well, there is a secondary camera as well which can be put well into use to make video calls, which is still uncommon in India.

  • Connectivity Features in Kyocera Hydro XTRM

  • Well, the bad thing or maybe the good thing, about the Kyocera Hydro XTRM is that it does not support normal GSM network. It's a CDMA product (800, 1900 Mhz). It features 3G and 4G LTE when it comes to connectivity features in the phone. There is the fourth version of Bluetooth to allow you share files instantly and stream music on your wireless headset. You've got WiFi, tethering and OTA sync as well. The phone also lets you know your exact location using GPA and assistive-GPS.

  • Other Features in Kyocera Hydro XTRM

  • Other features in Kyocera Hydro XTRM include M4, T3 hearing aid compatibility, haptic feedback, music ringtones (which are too obvious to mention on a specific note), Flight mode. More features go on with SNS integration, playback of wide variety of audio and video formats, image/video editors onboard, document viewer, google search, maps, Gmail, YouTube which allows you to upload your videos to your channel, Picasa etc.

Review of Kyocera Hydro XTRM – A Phone With Some Special Traits

As I'd promised, I'm about to speak of some extraordinary features that the Kyocera Hydro XTRM bags and will definitely express how much I'm impressed by the phone, as I really am. In other words, I'm about to give my review on the phone, which obviously seems to be too positive.

  • Tough Build
  • - Have a look at the official website of the Kyocera Hydro XTRM and you'll come to know of how they boast of their product through a well done page. The very first impression that it gives is of the very tough build the phone has. They say the phone can survive heavy rains, drops in the dirt, scratches, liquid splashing over its surface etc, all so brilliantly. The phone, as they say, is built to survive the toughest of conditions and triumph over situations when other phones fail out.

  • Water and Dust Resistant (IP57 certified)
  • - The Kyocera Hydro XTRM has among one of its most hyped features of being resistant of salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation and even transport and thermal shocks. MIL-STD-810G certified, this phone, according to Kyocera's official website, can be immersed to a depth of 3.28 feet (1 meter) under water for as long as 30 minutes.

  • Shock Proof
  • - Besides being water and dust resistant, the Kyocera Hydro XTRM is also shock proof. Well, to be specific, it is Military Standard 810G shock proof which means it can stand the toughness of the ground and you can use without caring of its health or broken bones.

  • Hydro Challenge
  • - Well, it seems the Kyocera have actually been able to get in Bear Grylls from Man vs Wild on NGC for something they call the Hydro Challenge. They have a whole video on that which can be watched on the page mentioned under the official page heading. It so appears that Bear is actually going to carry his phone over his expeditions and see if the phone stands out to be his worthy companion or not.

  • Smart Sonic Receiver
  • - The Kyocera Hydro XTRM is equipped with the state-of-the-art Smart Sonic Receiver technology. They say it transmits sound as vibrations which are carried by the body directly to the eardrum. It is supposed to reduce background noise so you can have a clearer conversation. Guaranteeing of crystal-clear sound quality while on the talk, it seems this is something that gives the Kyocera Hydro XTRM an edge over other phones. Now that is something new, surely!

  • 4G LTE
  • - The phone supports 4G LTE which means now you can experience the Internet at your fingertips, everything smoothing away for you like that ice just melted away.

Overall review: Is it a good invest, the Kyocera Hydro XTRM?

Well, if you ask me, I'll go for it. After everything that we've seen with the Xperia Z which first came out as the water resistance stuff, I think this phone surely deserves as applaud for what it has to offer to the average user, at an affordable price. The reason I consider it an averagely known or maybe even unpopular phone is because I don't think many people out here in India are acquainted with something called Kyocera. Phones to us mean Samsung, Sony, or Apple, LG, or Blackberry. One would surely think a hundred times before actually reaching out for one's pockets to invest into this phone, though I would consider it a wise investment, for the price at which it can be yours.

With many more competitors it has out there in the market, the only drawback I find is the manufacturer. Personally, I know what Kyocera is all about but I'm not everyone does. Another thing, had they actually let the phone have a 4.5 incher phone, it'd surely gather much more attention that it may do now. But the good thing that makes it worthy enough to be reviewed is that it is kind of affordable, has extraordinary features, all of them. The Smart Sonic Receiver totally got me in for it, I'd say.

Official Website for Kyocera Hydro XTRM

Please find here the official website Kyocera Hydro XTRM

You can watch the Bear Grylls video on that page and it shall give you details on how to buy the phone. Along with resources like the User Guide and the spec sheet, the page lists out elegantly the most prominent features of the machine. A fine piece of presentation, I'd say.

    Price of Kyocera Hydro XTRM
The price of Kyocera Hydro XTRM in the US happens to be nearly around $300 (as I discovered on a blog post), which means that the price of Kyocera Hydro XTRM in India would be somewhere near Rs. 18000, keeping in mind the current conversion rates.
