ZTE Director - Features, Review, Verdict and Price: A Phone That May Not Really Attract You!

In this article, I try to mention the features, give a review, my personal verdict about ZTE Director, which happens to be one of the most unknown phones on planet. Talking of the Director, all it directs you to is 'being ordinary'. It's just another ordinary phone but I'm talking about it as it happens to be one of those least known phones. Hope you'll agree with me.

Buying a phone has always been an adventure for people. We love to throw our old machine and get our hands on the new one. Obviously as we shift to something new, we want that new thing to be better than the old one. In India, we have all kinds of hype about the Samsung Galaxy series ruining sales of all its competitors, iPhone 4 gathering all the attention from the people with their new 'exchange your old smartphone and get a cashback upto Rs. 7000' and then there's the Blackberry Z10, Micromax Canvas 4 and the HD, but do we ever think of phones which don't get the hype? The phones which really don't matter in the market but were invented by their manufacturers with a dream? And phones which are not usually available in India but can be availed from the US or places like those? Well, the answer is an obvious no.

In here, in this article I shall talk about one such phone, the ZTE Director. This phone was released in the month of April 2013 and is an Android phone.

Features of the ZTE Director – A List That Goes On and On

This phone, though didn't manage to gather all the attention as the iPhone or a Galaxy breed would usually do, it has a lot of features to boast about.

  • Design: ZTE Director

  • The phone is a touchscreen obviously and looks elegant on the palm with an average weight of 140 grams, which I truly guess was not too much for a smartphone, talking about all the chipsets and transistors being packed inside. The phone comes in a dimension of 4.65 x 2.46 x 0.48 inches or say 118 x 62 x 12 mm respectively. Though the length is what an average Android phone would have, but surely, I was little disappointed by the width. Maybe that's the reason I like the iPhone 5 more than the iPhone 4, you see, the design of the phone totally gets your heart and makes you ready enough at the first instance to spend your bucks on it.

  • Display: ZTE Director

  • What is the face of a smartphone? More specifically, face of an Android smartphone? Obviously, it's screen. And talking about the screen of this what we call a not-so-popular model boasts a screen size of 3.5 inches. This year most phones hyped smartphones are equipped with 5 inches screen or even more than that, plus with the rush of the Xperia Z in the market, the display quality has mattered a lot to the customers.

ZTE Director IndiaBy display quality, I surely mean to talk about the screen resolution. Talk of the gigantic Xperia Z, it has a full HD resolution. These days you get an HD experience with phones from Micromax too, but this baby from ZTE, barely has something to show off. It carries a screen resolution of 320x480 pixels which I think is too much for a 3.5 inch screen. With the dpi of 165, I won't hesitate to say that I was totally disappointed with the face of this phone, the screen. Though it has multi-touch and light sensor and proximity sensor which most phones have nowadays anyway, this phone seems to be of no use to me when it comes to the display stuff.

  • Battery Quality: ZTE Director

  • The ZTE Director seems to be fuelled by a 1500 mAh, which according to phonearena, can give a talktime of 6 hours (the average being 11 hours) and a standby time of 15 days (the average being 18 days)

Though the screen of the phone wasn't able to capture my attention at all, I think the battery did well on its part. For an Android phone, a talktime and standby time of such degree I believe is immensely awesome, especially when you talk about the Micromax Canvas 2 of which I have a personal experience. The battery drains out quickly and takes hours to charge it to completion.

  • Hardware: ZTE Director

  • This phone runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7626A chipset as its base. The single core processor running at a frequency of 1000 MHz, well leaves me with no idea of how I should exactly compare this phone. The system has a memory of 512 MB and a huge 4 GB RAM.

Talking about system store, the phone supports microSD cards, no big deal! It can be expanded to 32 GB, something which I'd rarely do. I'm too lazy to take so much pain.

  • Camera: ZTE Director

  • The ZTE Director has a mediocre camera, precisely a 3 megapixel camera. With everything going around these days, in the year of 2013, I believe this is something I believe could be upgraded to something like a minimum of 5 megapixel. These days a phone worth Rs. 5000 too has a 8 megapixel camera and hence, the camera angel of this phone seems to be a loser, when it comes to attracting potential buyers.

Obviously, I agree ZTE is not Samsung or Sony but since I'm very impressed by the work Micromax has been doing, I think ZTE could have done a 5 MP camera. Still, that's just a user's wish, nothing more. The phone has a LED flash with digital zoom and video recording facility. Please, don't even think about a 720p recording.

  • Multimedia: ZTE Director

  • Though I was once kind of excited to see this phone for some reason, I'd say I am no more now. Again, this phone does not give you much to brag about when you're traveling in metro sharing seats with a dude who carries an iPhone 5. He won't even look at you, trust me.

There's nothing new! Just the old YouTube and stuff.

  • Connectivity: ZTE Director

  • Gladly, I found something, finally. The make is 'CDMA' 800, 1700/2100, 1900 MHz. Though it ain't that much a feature, but still, something is better than nothing.

Surprisingly after all the tint of being an average make, this phone actually features a Mobile Hotspot feature, which people these days are attracted to easily. You have Bluetooth 3.0 for sharing data and streaming music, you have WiFi as I already said. Also, you can use this phone to do what is called 'tethering', making this phone a bit of attraction for potential buyers, I haven't really found out anything big. Oh there also is something called the OTA sync and you can upload videos to your YouTube channel using this phone, which again is no big deal.

  • Other Features: ZTE Director

  • Well, talking about other features on this phone, well you don't have anything new onboard. We have something called Haptic Feedback. There is Flight mode option which is there in all phones these days. Sure, it won't trouble you on the flight though. You have accelerometer and Compass which are actually more of a necessity than a feature for an Android phone, so no features, yet again!

    Overall review of ZTE Director

The phone doesn't have any feature that can make you howl and make you open its official webpage and show it off to your bestie anyway. All the features we have onboard are available on a plethora of phones, and maybe that's the reason I think this phone really stands out to be one of those most unknown phones in the world. In fact it is so unpopular that you won't find its name on the official website of ZTE mobiles

    Price
Apologies, as I am not able to give you details on the price of the phone, but the fact is, going on about the kind of features it has, I think it should be yours at a price of something like Rs. 3500 – Rs. 5000. Obviously, I wouldn't pay a penny more, as it ain't Samsung or Sony or Apple. It's just a ZTE and it's not hot.
