How to recover your Windows password in simple steps

You set up a Strong password for your Windows User Account and forgot it. Read on to know how to reset your password in simple steps with just a USB drive and a computer.

It is often recommended to set up a secure and strong password for your Windows accounts so that no one except you can guess your password and snoop on your personal data. But after setting a strong password, there are chances that you forget it. In that case, you would go for reinstalling windows. But, It is possible to recover your User Account without reinstalling your Windows. It is very easy. You just need a PC and a USB drive. Go to your friend's PC and just follow the steps below:-

1. You will need a utility called Offline Registry and Password editor. For that, download this file -

2. You will need to install this utility in a USB drive and make it bootable. Unzip all the files to a USB drive. Make sure the free space on the USB drive is at least 10MB. Also, backup all the data stored on your USB drive.

3. Run Command Prompt with elevated permissions. To do so in Windows 7, go to Start Menu>Programs>Accessories, right click on the Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator option.

4. Run the following command:

 X:syslinux.exe -ma X 
in Command Prompt.
Replace X: with your USB drive. For example, if your USB drive is F: , replace X with F.
This will create a bootloader on your USB device and make it bootable.

5. Now, Insert USB drive into your own computer, start the computer and go to BIOS. Usually you can go to BIOS by pressing F2 while the computer is starring. Refer to manual of computer if yours do not go into BIOS.

6. Go to Boot Priority Management tab and Select your USB drive as the first boot device from a list of devices. Now when you will restart your computer, your computer will try to boot from USB drive first instead of Hard disk.

7. Restart your computer. And your computer will boot into Windows Reset Password /Registry Editor.

8. Select the disk in which your windows is installed. Usually it is Disk 0. It may be different if you have installed multiple hard drives in your computer.

9. Now select the volume in which Windows is installed. Usually it will be C drive.If it is not C then select the required volume.

10. Select PATH and Registry files option.

11. Select Password Reset [sam system security] option.

12. Select Edit user data and passwords. A list of users will appear including the User for which you have forgotten the password.

13. Select the required user of which you have forgotten the password . At the next screen, select Clear User password option. A prompt will appear that you have cleared the password of required user.

14. Now follow the instructions on the screen to Save the changes you have made to your user account and Quit.

15. Now remove the USB drive from your computer, restart your computer and you are ready to go on.

Congratulations you have recovered your account and password is removed from your user account and you can Login normally.
