Product review: Amazon Kindle Fire HD
Amazon is a company that is known for its exhaustive library of e-books, hence the company recently launched its biggest Kindle Fire HD 8.9. Sporting an 8.9 inch display and a much improved 1.5Ghz dual core processor, this device offers good value for money.
Amazon recently launched its biggest Kindle Fire HD 8.9. The device has arrived in Indian market quite late. Users will be offered two products: the enhanced Amazon Kindle Fire HD7 and its predecessor Kindle Fire. With Kindle Fire HD 8.9 in the stores now, the Kindle market is replenished with a sprawling lineup of products. The product has a larger and sharper 8.9-inch display. The device has a faster 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. This device offers good value for money.
Both the Kindle Fire HD devices are not just separated by screen size but offer two different experiences altogether. The sole purpose of this tablet has changed from mere downloading and reading e-books. The device has dived into Amazon's multimedia world full of films, music, apps and games. When compared to the original Kindle, this tablet is much simpler and better in design.
The body structure of the tablet is strong and sturdy. It fits well in hand but fails to impress on the style quotient. Kindle Fire HD 8.9 looks similar to the 7-inch model but is bigger and heavier. The device has 567g of weight and it is comfortable to hold it in the portrait mode. This device has a smooth glass at front and a matte back which gives a good hand grip. The absence of rear camera will be disappointing for many users. The tablet has a 1.3-megapixel camera for video calls. The screen shows good colors and contrast. Amazon has also improved the viewing angles in this device. The screen has a resolution of 1920 X 800 pixels with a pixel density of 254ppi. Owing to this original form, reading a book or browsing internet is comfortable. The text remains clear and eminently legible.
The processors are very well-balanced and perform well while multi-tasking. The quality of the speakers is commendable. This tablet offers the battery life of over 10 hours with continuous use. For connection purposes, the device is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The brand offers two models to choose; 16 GB model and 32 GB model.
Overall, Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 inch has a crisp screen, excellent speakers, good performance, good battery backup, excellent voice narrator and access to a huge book store. Even though for max app users, the tablet may be a letdown as it doesn't support Google Play Store. One can only access Amazon PlayStore from the tablet. Another point is that, this tablet supports limited video formats. For connectivity, it doesn't allow 3G whereas only Wi-Fi can be used.
Overall, the tablet has sharp, warm screen, unmatched media library and a highly streamlined UI. However, the online stores and app store don't function as per demand. The review is written by experts at Reliance Digital.
