Orange San Diego, previously known as Santa Clara, is a one of those Android smartphones which are powered by first generation Intel chipsets. The chipset is developed for fast web browsing, better battery life and stunning camera performance.

Display of Orange San Diego

Orange San Diego features a beautiful 4 inch multi touch capacitive touch screen. The screen is rich and sharp but lacks AMOLED Plus or Super LCD 2 fanfare. The display also provides wider viewing angles. Orange San Diego comes with the fantastic wide display with a resolution of 1024 X 600 pixels. This resolution is pretty awesome and larger resolution means sharper and more clear the display will be.

Camera quality

When we look at the camera of Orange San Diego, Intel has powered it on this field too. The performance of camera is not measured by megapixels itself, and San Diego is to be the first phone to demonstrate that too. The quality and performance of camera is also measured by its built in software and Orange San Diego`s camera performance is increased due to some effort made from software side too. But we cannot praise the performance of San Diego`s camera too much, as it could not stand with other similarly priced phones in the field of camera performance. Intel has also added many control options for the camera, but still the camera lacks from HD recording mode.

Software of Orange San Diego

The world's first Intel-powered smartphone, Orange San Diego runs with Android Gingerbread. Even though the hardware of this device can support running of Ice Cream Sandwich, it won't be seen until Q4. This device delivers a great gesture drawing, that acts as a shortcut and opens whatever is assigned with it. The gestures can be assigned up to 27 apps to make their shortcuts on the homescreen. There are many inbuilt Orange`s own app like Orange Assistant helper, Orange Wednesday, NFC tags app etc which are pre-installed in Orange San Diego. The Android keyboard comes within San Diego is extremely responsive and even Swype is provided for those who have made it as their style. This device is also capable for a completely fast and better web browsing which has performance quite similar to that of other dual-core Android smartphones.

Hardware Configuration

Orange San Diego comes with a fantastic single core 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z 2460 processor. Although this Intel Atom processor is not that close to the Snapdragon S45 and far away from the quad-cores of 2012, it is capable of sparring with dual core processors. Even though Orange San Diego could not scale the three dimensional environments very clearly, it can manage to overcome this and other low intensity tasks without much problem.

Performance and Battery life

While talking about the performance of Orange San Diego, it has an amazing performance that is much better than the ordinary Android smartphones. Unlike other Android smartphones which will fade out within couple of hours, Orange San Diego overshines with its battery performance which has got a massive power to withstand. It has been tested and found out that Orange San Diego can hold around seven hours and 20 minutes while looping a video with screen fixed at 50 percent brightness. This alone shows you how powerful battery is inside Orange San Diego. Although it has been promised that the device will standby upto 14 days, Orange San Diego still manages to standby closer to two or three days with fully charged battery. This is much better for a 4-inch Android smartphone. As the runtime of Orange San Diego is directly related to the use, it is still better than any of other smartphones. Orange San Diego also features a HD video calling between other compatible smartphones and also delivers earSmart voice-cancellation technology which has been firstly introduced for Galaxy S3.

Wrap Up

Orange San Diego being Intel's first Android Smartphone, Intel has brought its maximum effort to make this device a better product in the competing market. When looking towards the price of Orange San Diego, it has got an admirable performance which is great news for us. Even Though Orange San Diego has got disappointing features like low quality camera, lacking of Ice Cream Sandwich etc.; compared to other closely priced Smartphones like Galaxy Nexus, which is just 100$ more expensive, Orange San Diego still shines as it is the first Intel-entry smartphone. Also, Orange San Diego lacks those best features that an Android can offer, but still it remains as a start for Intel to build upon.
