FTTH (Fiber to the Home) Internet Connectivity:The FTTH (Fiber to the Home) internet connectivity delivers high speed internet access by means of a fiber optic cable. The customer who requests for this type of internet connection will be served with a separate fiber optic cable which will be either from the telecom service provider node or from their franchises across the city. As the separate fiber optic cable connection is provided to the customer, the internet bandwidth can have a minimum speed of 256 Kbps to about 100 Mbps. As compared to the twisted pair fixed telephone line, the fiber optic cable connection has long range as well as super-fast internet connectivity which is nearly similar to that of IP leased line internet connection. Therefore, the FTTH is an innovative type of connection which is designed to serve customers with world class services.
The FTTH type of connection can support video calls, IPTV, VoIP (voice over IP), video conferencing and high speed broadband data access. In case of IPTV, the next generation technology called as 3D TV and HDTV can be transmitted over this fiber optic technology which is available at various telecom service providers in India. Other services like Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), interactive gaming, video as well as audio on demand, remote education and bandwidth on demand can be delivered using this next generation technology called as Fiber to the Home (FTTH). This type of connection can also deliver triple play services which mean IPTV, super fast internet connectivity and a telephone service over the single fiber optic cable connection.
The FTTH subscriber will be served with a Home Optical Network Termination (HONT) device that has 4 Ethernet ports and two conventional telephone ports. Here each Ethernet port is capable enough to deliver 100 Mbps data connectivity and all other services like IPTV, HDTV, internet connectivity, telephone, etc. This HONT device works on a power supply of 12 V DC that has a power backup of about 4 hours if all the ports are operated at the same time and if only few services are delivered then this power backup lasts for about 3 days. In this way the power backup will be provided by the telecom service provider and the subscriber has to pay only for the data and telephone services.
Right now there are many telecom companies in India which can offer FTTH data plans but BSNL and MTNL are the ones which have wide spread network all over India. Here the customers have to note that Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) offers telecom services only in the cities like Mumbai and Delhi whereas the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) serves other remaining cities of the country. Here, the onetime registration charges of BSNL and MTNL are Rs 500/- and only MTNL subscribers can request for wireless HONT device for which the subscriber will be charged with the registration charges of Rs 600/- and Rs 50/- per month for wireless HONT device. It is mandatory for both the subscribers to pay one time security deposit of Rs 1000/- which is refundable if the subscriber terminates the connection with respect to terms and conditions of ISP (Internet Service Providers).
FTTH Data plans of BSNL in India :The first data plan of BSNL in fiber to the home technology is triple play package which is integrated with landline telephone service, broadband data connectivity and the IPTV whose charges are Rs 180/-, Rs 250/- and Rs 150/- respectively. All these services can be operated at once and there will be no any delay or interruption in between them. This plan will be charged more than Rs. 580/- since the subscriber has to pay a service tax of 12.36% on the total billing amount. If no extra services are used then the total billing amount will never go beyond Rs 650/- whereas if the data service is accessed more than the free download limit then its charges will be calculated with respect to Limited standalone broadband plan BBG250 . Following image gives the exact plan specification in detail.
BSNL also provides limited and unlimited fiber broadband data plans. The limited fiber broadband has 3 variants as shown in the image below. It is important to note that the subscribers data usage will be calculated with respect to data download as well as data upload. Hence, the subscriber has to choose perfect plan because there is no any provision for change of plan in the middle of month.
Here the first plan is FiBro Ltd 2 which has monthly data charges of Rs 1500/- where free data usage will be of 8 GB and the bandwidth will remain constant at 2 Mbps. Beyond free usage, the charges for this plan will be incurred at the rate of Rs 0.50/- per MB of data. In this case if the user downloads 5 GB of extraneous data, then its charges will be calculated as Rs 0.50/- multiplied by 5000 which equals to about Rs. 2,500/-. Hence, the total billing amount will be Rs 1,500/- + Rs. 2,500/- which equal to about Rs 4,000/-. As usual this amount is associated with a Service tax of 12.36 %.
The second plan is FiBro Ltd 4 which has monthly data charges of Rs 2,999/- where free data usage will be of 30 GB and the bandwidth will remain constant at a 4 Mbps. Beyond free usage, the charges for this plan will be incurred at the rate of Rs 0.40/- per MB of data. In this case if the extraneous data download is of 5 GB then along with the monthly charges the subscriber has to pay Rs 4,999/-.
The third and last plan is FiBro Ltd 16 which has monthly data charges of Rs 6,999/- where free data usage will be of 100 GB and the bandwidth will remain constant at a 16 Mbps. Beyond free usage, the charges for this plan will be incurred at the rate of Rs 0.30/- per MB of data. In this plan if the extraneous data access is of 5 GB then the charges along with monthly rental will be Rs 8499/-. For all these limited fiber broadband data plans, the bandwidth does not drops after the free data usage and it remains constant at all the times. Therefore the subscriber has to be very careful about their data usage since they will have to pay monthly charges as well as these extraneous data charges.
In case of unlimited fiber broadband plans, there are a total of 7 FTTH data plans and they are shown in the two images below. The first image below shows 4 data plans and they are named on the basis of bandwidth over fiber optic cable.
The first plan is Fibro 1 where the monthly data charges will be Rs. 2,999/- and the data can be accessed over a bandwidth of 1 Mbps.
Second plan is Fibro 2 where the monthly data charges will be Rs 3,999/- and the data can be accessed over a bandwidth of 2 Mbps.
Third plan is Fibro 8 where the monthly data charges will be Rs 11,999/- and the data can be accessed over a bandwidth of 8 Mbps.
Fourth plan is Fibro 10 where the monthly data charges will be Rs 13,999/- and the data can be accessed over a bandwidth of 10 Mbps.
In the second image, the three data plans can serve a bandwidth whose range lies between whopping 20 Mbps to about 100 Mbps of data connectivity and these plans are specifically designed for the business users.
In the plan Fibro 20, monthly data charges are of Rs 25,999/- and the data can be accessed over a bandwidth of 20 Mbps.
In the plan Fibro 50, monthly data charges are of Rs 49,999/- and the data can be accessed over a bandwidth of 50 Mbps.
In the plan Fibro 100, monthly data charges are of Rs 83,999/- and the data can be accessed over a bandwidth of 100 Mbps.
The subscribers can pay monthly rental charges in advance and if they choose to pay for 1 year charges in advance then they will be given 1 month free data usage. i.e. If the subscriber has subscribed to the plan Fibro Ltd 2 then its 12 months data charges will be Rs 16,500/-. This amount will be charged with a Service tax of 12.36% and it is mandatory so as to get 1 month free subscription. This type of scheme applies to all the FTTH data plans mentioned above and all these connections have a minimum hire period of 3 months.
