Comparison between Panasonic LF1 and Canon IXUS 140 compact cameras
With increase in popularity of smart phone cameras, digital compact cameras are seeing minimum sales. To overcome this, brands like Canon, Nikon, Fuji film and Panasonic have come up with compact cameras which have new features. Now, let us have a comparison between features and specifications of the Canon IXUS 140 and the Panasonic LF1.
With the advent of high end cameras in smart phones like Nokia Pure View, point-and-shoot type cameras are losing their popularity. So, to bring them back to the race, all popular brands are enhancing their digital cameras with latest features like built-in Wi-Fi, high end processors, sensors, etc. In this concern, leading brands Panasonic and Canon came up with their new point-and-shoot cameras LF1 and IXUS 140 to expand their digital camera markets. Now, let's have a brief comparison between these two budget point-and-shoot digital cameras.Panasonic LF1
This LF1 model has genes of the previously launched LF and LX7 models. However, there are many noticeable improvements which make the LF1 stand out. With a stylish and sleek design, the LF1 in black, fits in your hands and gives you a 1/1.7-inch 12.1 Mega pixel MOS sensor. Panasonic boasts that the LF1 is equipped with LEICA DC lens which performs 2 times faster than F2.8 type lenses. You get DSLR experience with a control ring surrounding the lens that lets you adjust ISO range, shutter speeds zoom function, etc. Unlike all other compact digital cameras, LF1 comes with an electronic viewfinder to assist you while shooting. Generally, in most of the compact cameras from Canon and Fujifilm, Flash is situated either in the left or in center. The unique feature of Panasonic point-and-shoot camera is that Flash is provided on right side of the body. Not that good as a DSLR, LF1's Auto Focus performs well in most of the cases but struggles when dealing with fast moving subjects. You don't have to worry if you are a newbie; Panasonic LF1 assists you with its gridlines while shooting pictures. Lower ISO settings can deliver clear images with better noise reduction but as you move to the higher ISO range, images become noisier and lose clarity. It has simple on-screen controls and performs well in normal conditions but you may have to suffer when you are outdoors. Providing both Wi-Fi and Near Field Communication is a plus point and you don't have to struggle for turning on Wi-Fi. By pressing the on-board button, you can store your pictures and videos in a mobile device, i.e. in a tablet or smart phone. But to share your pics on Facebook, you shall have to register in Lumix lifestyle account and activate it by visiting their official website. Also Read:

Canon IXUS 140
An ultra-compact Wi-Fi enabled camera is added to Canon's IXUS series. On should appreciate its 16 mega pixel CMOS sensor and 4608x3456 resolution that are far better than LF1. HD video recording is limited to 720p in the Panasonic LF1. Coming to the body, Canon IXUS 140 looks pretty, especially in black. Holding IXUS can be a little weird as it lacks rear thumb grip which you will find in LF1. Thanks to its Auto Focus mode, it delivers optimal results and perfectly detects moving subjects. A 3-inch PureColor II G TFT LCD display with awesome visibility is easy to navigate like LF1. Panasonic LF1 has the upper hand if we compare the battery lives of the two. The IXUS 140 can serve you only 190 shots whereas LF1's battery serves up to 250 shots. Both the cameras are given a dedicated Movie button on the top right. The IXUS lacks a dedicated Wi-Fi button. The upside is that it has an optional GPS and orientation sensor. It has no internal storage memory and depends on SD, SDHC or SDXC for storage. The LF1 is provided 87 MB internal memory. Though both these cameras have built-in flash, the range differs a lot. The IXUS 140 is limited to 3.5 m and the other is just double i.e., 7 m. Also, a viewfinder is an advantage to the Panasonic LF1 and it gives a traditional feel to photographers. Like all other compact cameras, IXUS 140 also disappoints you if you work often in dim light. Like LF1, this camera also doesn't deliver optimal output for higher ISO ranges. Its price range starts from around Rs.10, 000.Also Read:

The Panasonic LF1 is costlier but if you are a newbie to photography, choose Panasonic LF1 only. If budget is your prime consideration, then you can surely go for IXUS 140. It has less battery life, less optical zoom and lacks NFC. So, the choice is yours. Both are good at their own places.
Comparing these cameras is a waste of everyones time. The LF1 has a much larger sensor, faster processor, and a much wider and higher quality lens. The writer is clearly not a real photographer.
