Website safety check tools

You don't have to be a detective or an investigator to detect scams. Website safety check tools are just one click ahead. Read below to know more about them.

Scamadviser

Scamadviser- website safety checking tool
This tool reports user if a website is dodgy or there is a scam. Just enter a website's URL in the space provided and all facts about that website will be in front of you. A horizontal bar with an indicator indicates the safety level of a website. If the indicator on bar shows the level of 100%, you can safely navigate on that website. You can also know several other facts like estimated value, registrar, registrant, domain age and location of the website. Scamadviser mainly allows people to check if a website is safe to use. A list of scam websites is given in the website. You can check the list to be cautious for future surfing. Also, Scamadviser offers a trust seal that you can put in your site. You have to pass the security check and then pay for having this seal. The seal indicates the safety level of your website.

Web Security Guard

Web Security Guard
Security threats from spyware, adware, spam and viruses are most common. This Web Security Guard protects users from these threats. Check the safety level of a suspicious website by typing its URL on the search bar provided at the top right of Web Security Guard. You can also download this guard and install it on your PC. This helps a lot. The icon of Web Security Guard will be then visible on your search results on any search engines. This tool also allows the users to read reviews on a website before visiting it. So, this is a good tool for safe browsing when you visit unknown websites.

Web of Trust

Web of Trust tool
Web of Trust or simply WOT is an add-on for your browser. It's a crowd sourced website-reputation service which was started by two PG students in 2005. WOT collects users' reviews and ratings and these help the new visitors. This informs the visitors about safety level of a website. Once you download this add-on, a colored icon will start appearing in your search results. If it is in green, you can safely visit that website. I don't mean to say that other colors indicate that the website is unsafe. The colors of icon are based on users' ratings and reviews. Newly launched sites or sites with no reviews may not get the green symbol.

There are several other tools like onlinelinkscan.com and scanurl.nrt. Here, I have written about the top three tools for checking safety level of a website. Your antivirus blocks dangerous software but it does not protect you from online threats like phishing and e-commerce scams. So, you definitely need a website-check tool for safe browsing. We cannot expect 100% accurate results as the analysis is mostly based on past users' reviews & ratings but at least some amount of caution can be taken.
