CCleaner - PC Performance Optimizer and Cleaner
CCleaner is a utility used to increase the speed & performance of your computer. This software helps to improve the performance of your system by removing off your temporary files, wiping free space and by removing the left over files of uninstalled software and repairing registry files.
CCleaner is a software created by piriform ltd. The aim of this software is to clean the unused files, temporary files and to remove unwanted registry files present in the hard disk. It also cleans the history of internet browsing done through almost all browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera Browser, K-meleon, Rockmelt, Seamonkey etc. It also removes the temporary files which are created by third party apps such as vuze, emule, etc and other utilities like Daemon tools, WinRAR, etc. It also cleans (or) wipes the free space which in addition helps speed up the process of the system.
Salient features of CCleaner:
Registry Cleaner: It fixes the registry issues like Missing Shared DLL's, unused file extensions, ActiveX and Class Issues, Type Libraries, Applications, Fonts, Application Paths, Help Files, Installer, files left over by obsolete software, etc.
Tools included in CCleaner:
Uninstall: It works similar to that of uninstall manager present in the control panel. You can see all the current programs and apps installed in your computer plus you have an option to save the programs installed in your computer to a text file for your quick reference.
Startup: This option provides a detailed list of programs which starts when computer starts or when the browser starts. But to use this option you must be an Advanced user. With these options, you can control the programs which starts up during beginning of computer or browser.
System Restore: This tab maintains a record of backups made by the computer. In case you are running out of memory or you think that it is unnecessary, this makes a handy option to delete the backups made by computer system.
Drive Wiper:The most useful one. When the file is deleted, the windows operating system deletes the reference address but does not delete the original data, which will be replaced as new files are being stored. To clean it manually rather than letting it deleted by itself, the drive wiping can be performed. The drive can be wiped by two methods namely,
1) Automatic wiping during cleanup: This can be achieved by selecting the check-box labeled "Wipe free space" in the Windows tab >> Advanced.
2) Manual wiping; The disk wiping can be done manually by selecting Tools in the left pane and then selecting "Drive wiper".
Above all these, the CCleaner is completely customizable and is free to use!!!
