How to make an audio call by using Microsoft Office Communicator (MOC)

In this article, I am going to talk about a very interesting and beautiful product of Microsoft, Microsoft Office Communicator often referred to as MOC in professional environment. Please read this article to know more about MOC and its audio calling features and functionality.

Microsoft Office Communicator serves as an Instant Messenger used widely in professional environment for chatting, scheduling meetings, audio calling, video calling, screen sharing, file sending, conference calls, trainings, etc. It is a very user friendly and interesting product by Microsoft giving users an easy and pleasant feeling while using.

This application works by synchronizing with user's outlook. All the options, activities, events, etc. have to be integrated with Outlook account of the user. That means, if the user gets a meeting or training invite, the schedule of the meeting is integrated with MOC and the status of the user during that time-slot will show busy or in meeting or in training. MOC also obtains the contact details of the users from Outlook address book.

I have given a lot of outlook articles with issues encountered and resolutions to it on TEC. Please see the link below which has a few sub links and each sub link has many sub links so that these articles can serve as learning document for the users.

Microsoft Office Communicator (MOC) allows its users a lot of options as mentioned above to connect with their contacts at office or outside office. Audio calling feature is just one of them. In this article, we will cover audio calling feature of this application.

Users can make two types of calls by using MOC; Communicator calls and Phone calls.

1. Communicator calls use MOC application to get connected with users in their computers. In this type, both the parties and all the parties in case of a conference calling must have an active MOC installed in their machines with an enabled audio calling feature.

Note: Based on business needs, most companies disable certain options for their employees in MOC.

2. Phone calls use the phone number listed in a user's Outlook profile to make an actual telephone call from computer by using MOC application. It works just like other applications like yahoo messenger, Skype, Nimbus, etc. where a user gets an option to make an audio call by using the phone number of the other party.

In this article, we will see how to make audio calls by both phone number and Communicator call.
