Extra import duty on smartphones - is that a good decision?

The Government of India has recently announced a levy of 10 percent import duty on smartphones. How will this affect the mobile industry as a whole?
I would consider it to be a good decision to lend a helping hand to the indigenous smartphone makers in India. The planned import duty can be seen as an extension of the Make In India campaign. Companies will be forced to assemble their devices here in India rather than importing the smartphones for the Indian market.
It can also be helpful in deterring the MNCs from using India as a dumping ground for their obsolete and slow selling items here in the country. Which companies will this duty impact? I would consider the companies like Apple, Lenovo, Vivo, Huawei, and Oppo to be forced to lok for alternatives.
What do our techinas feel about this change? What effect would you think it will have on the Indian market?

This measure will definitely help the indigenous players to some extent however the new models with low rates are being introduced by foreign players with such a fast pace that the benefit derived by this raise in import duty will be short lived.

Anyway this has shown that Govt is concerned for local players. So we can expect more such measures in future.

    Knowledge is power.
