Ever thought why the "i" letter in iPhone is small?

This has been a long time using and writing about the Apple iPhones. Apple iPhones have been a great trend in India. Everyone wants to buy the latest smartphone added in the Apple iPhone series. I look to many smartphone names but what I felt strange is about the Apple iPhone. I would like to know why the "i" letter in the Apple iPhone is written small? What if the Apple iPhone would be written like: Apple Iphone? What's the need to write the first letter small?

I remember when I was a kid I was taught to write the first letter of any brand to be capital or the first letter of the line to be capital. In this case though Apple iPhone is not any line but two words which would have been written as Apple Iphone.

The small i has nothing to do with the phone as a product from Apple. The small i began with iMac long back. Apple was actually a computer company initially. The iMac computers were introduced in the year 1998. The explanation given at that time was that the product was a marriage of the Internet and the Macintosh. The iPhone was launched in 2007 and it was sure that they will be using the small i itself.
Between iMac in 1998 and iPhone in 2007, there have been several iDevices. The iBook in 1999, iTools in 2000, iTunes in 2001 were some notable launches. The year 2001 saw the launch of a great product that revolutionised the tech arena - the iPod.
Apart from the marketing gimmick, nothing else can be attributed to the usage of small i in the iPhone. They have just been carrying forward the success of iMac till date and nothing more than that.
