    Suggestion for a New Feature

    This is again a suggestion to add a new feature on our site - Techulator. I have seen in the Forum section that we mostly use such words for suggesting or referring to any member of the site:

    @Tony John,
    #Tony John,
    Tony John,

    Like in many of the Forum threads we need to fetch the attention of webmaster or of any editor for proper responses which can only be given by them. But due to lack of time some times the thread misses to fetch the attention and then we can't have proper responses to that thread. Though we can contact the webmaster or any editor via personal messages it would be great if we can tag them like we do on Facebook. It would be great for our site if can simply type the name and the names similar to that comes in the drop down list from which we can select the right person to tag. This would really be a great feature for our site to fetch the attention on some important threads. Also if we tag someone in any Forum thread then he/she should see a alert for that in his/her profile. What would you say about this Techians? I hope Tony sir will spare some time from his busy schedule to reply on this thread.

    Though I am not trying to negate anyone's views, but I do not think there is any need for such a tagging system.
    Techulator does not send alerts for all happenings in the site. More over , when an important thread is posted which is in absolute need of webmaster intervention, one or the other editor who happens to notice it makes it a point to bring it to the attentions of the core team of the site. So, it is definitely brought to the attention of the concerned.
    Please note that this is my personal opinion.

    Thank you Timmappa Kamat for sharing your personal view on this thread. Though I would still support the suggestion of adding this feature as I have experienced the loss of fetching the attention of webmaster at a proper time.

    Aman,
    I was thinking of your suggestion and got an idea based on it. When an editor sees a thread which requires the attention of the Webmasters, the editor could put some kind of alert feature on it which would indicate (a) to the member that the Webmasters have been informed about it and (b) to the Webmaster checking out the forum in case the direct message sent to him was overlooked. So, let's say, the word 'Alert' itself within a small rectangle or oval perhaps could be put in? It could be incorporated in the list of emoticons which a forum editor can select to mark a thread.

    Yup, that could be a better alternative than tagging a member - be it a webmaster or a regular member. There are a few reasons to it. Even if the member who posts the query in the forum wants the webmaster to intervene, but the team or webmaster himself may think otherwise. In such cases, tagging system will be something that tests the patience of the team members.
    But, the current practice where editors bring such important threads to the attention of the webmasters is also works quite satisfactorily.
