I prefer, AVG because it's Free, Definition of virus and removal is also easy, it supports and updates the latest edition automatically upon your preferred setting.
Virus Vault and scheduled virus runs on disks, Email scanned and resident shield updater are the best features in it.
More to that it's Free Buddy :D

You didn't include avira and panda anti virus!!! they are suppose to be the best these days. Try surfing under resouces-security I 've posted some.
In the above list AVG is best because its free. McAfe is damn good, but utilizes the system resource completely when any suspicious action happens. You will Loose your patience working with your PC.

I will suggest you to use Norton Antivirus because it is more capable then any other anti virus to remove viruses from the system. It have anti sypware and anti malware protection also. It have a auto updater feature also which update virus definition automatically. This feature help the anti virus to find the viruses on the system. And you will find the latest virus definition in norton rather then any other anti virus.

AVG is good and I am using free basic version which is really good for the home user. Do need to buy a antivirus software which is more costly and for corporate network require more protection than the home users, because in a network computer if a system is affected by a virus then through the network it will spread across the network at it will infect all the computer in the network. If a home user is affected by a virus then resolving is easier and corporate needs more protection than the home users.
Try the free software and use the best to protect your computer.

I am using Kaspersky Anti-Virus. it is available at around 500/- per year and very effective
