Facebook to acquire WhatsApp for $19 bn. Is it worth that price?

Yesterday Facebook and WhatsApp announced that they are in a deal worth $19 billion. This is one of the biggest tech acquisitions so far. Nasdaq reports say that Facebook exchanges $4 billion in cash and the rest $16 in shares to WhatsApp. Do you think this deal is really worth $19 billion? Can WhatsApp acquisition take Facebook into number one position in messaging app market?

I also heard about this deal between Facebook and WhatsApp. Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19 billion. Yes I think this would make Facebook the number one messaging app in the market as now Facebook has acquired WhatsApp and it can do anything with it. So I think that facebook will become the number app.

You are right that Facebook will be the number one messaging app after this acquisition. But I'm talking about the returns (monetary benefits) it could get by the acquisition. This deal is made because Facebook accepted that it wouldn't place in app ads (one of the agreements). Since Facebook's income is primarily from FB Ads, this would be a huge drawback.
