Social networks lose their identity once they become marketing tools - Do you agree?

Social networks like Facebook and Twitter came into internet world with the motto of connecting the closed one's. Twitter brought revolution by bringing micro blogging. But with the emergence of social media marketing now I personally feel that these sites (particularly Facebook) are slowly started to lose its identity and started shifting to a new arena. A simple example is that you will definetly have a photo with a story (may or may not be true) and finally asking you to like and share. Thousand of photos are circulating similarly. All is to get likes and followers.
Do you agree that social networks started losing its original identity? Share your views.

In a way, I think you are right Ganesh. Today social networks are becoming marketing media. Many are using social networks for marketing. Of course they aim to get more likes and shares to increas there followers where they can advertise there product. So me too feel that the definition of social network is changing nowadays.

Hi Ganesh, I hope any type of marketing is not out of socializing or social happening or social content. Therefore, I consider marketing in Social Networking sites is not a harm and it should be taken as part of the regular activity in your life. Anyhow there is a danger of being considered as a spammer by the respective sites subject to their posting regulations. Everything in moderate is well for everybody.
