    EDGE and GPRS services

    Hi Member
Please discuss about the EDGE and GPRS services in mobile applications. How its work and which is basic difference in between?

    Hi Zanib ,

    GPRS

GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service and is the oldest data transfer method used on all modern cell phones. GPRS works by breaking up data into packets which are sent over the air between your GPRS-compatible phone and your carrier. GPRS offers theoretical data transfer speeds of up to 115 kbps, though real-world speeds are typically much slower.

EDGE is also Known as EGPRS

EGPRS stands for Enhanced General Packet Radio Service and denotes GPRS networks operating with the aid of the newer EDGE (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution) standard. EDGE operates by transferring data packets under a greater number of pathways simultaneously for faster data speeds. EDGE speeds can reach 236 kbps, though again real-world speeds are usually lower.

    Dear friend,
GPRS is very slow than EDGE,
    EDGE Speed = 3xGPRS Speed.

    Hai friend
This is a nice thread for of them to basically feel the difference between two of them. There are a lot of network available for using internet they are listed below.
    1 GPRS
    2 EDGE
    3 3G
    4 3.5G
    5 4G
The GPRS is a network used in small local phones and it is the first generation network and the usage of net will be very slow. But when the next generation network comes it impress all the mobile users it is the EDGE and it has more browsing speed compared it to GPRS. And the next networks are 3G and 4G network it is more fast that we can download 1 MB in 1 second but the recharge is very costly.

    Dear rihan,
In between 2G and 3G, other two are available.
    They are
    2.5G
    2.75G
2.5G is more faster than 2G. Also, 2.75G is also known as EDGE.
    Thanks

EDGE and GPRS are two connectivity featuresin which EDGE is more faster than GPRS. They are mainly depends on the handset and the network provided. while using internet a letter is indicated in the phone , that may be E or G in which E denotes EDGE and G represents the GPRS feature.

    Hi Zanib,
EDGE is an innovation on the GPRS technology. Edge and GPRS is a concept of the internet using in mobile. GPRS is user for transferring datas and accessing the internet alone. Even it will helps to find out the device by tracing them. Edge is differ from GPRS. It has improved in its speed when compared to GPRS. GPRS gives 56K bits per second whereas Edge gives 256K bits per second. GPRS functionality is slower in transfer of accessing datas. But in Edge there is lot of speed process in this transfer. It looks like accessing 3g in Edge device.
