If we connect two or more computer each other using local area network whether using cable connection or wireless. That is called local area network. A local area network can have two to unlimited computers and servers in the particular organisation or office or company. They also linked with different type of hubs, switches or wireless routers. In one local area network there can be more than one servers.

    Hi Dinesh,

I think if we use default subnet mask, we can connect only 254 computers in a Local Area Network. Not Unlimited.

We can also make VLANs which is used for data security from different departments, say Financial Department, HR Department etc.

It not depends on the lined or the wire less connection but the architecture and topologies of the network matter which sometimes allows the simplex, half duplex and full duplex connection in which it is sometimes transmitted from common line and sometimes from separate lines that too depend on the level of clarity required at the destination computer and for achieving this goal some interface devices are also used.
