  • Want to start an e-commerce site with only 2 products.

DIY: How to start your business online with minimum expenditure and best output. Know how to sell products online and what all is required technically to launch an eCommerce website with a payment gateway.

I have sourcing for some products and want to start my own e-commerce site for selling the same online. I wanted advice from experts as I have many questions but they have not been answered properly by anyone as of yet.

    1. I want to build my own e-commerce site, but mind you, I am am no technical guy but just have a good interest in technology. I have heard of Shopify/Wix and other which are drag and drop shop builder, but want to skip them considering the cost involved. I am running really low on budget.

    2. I want to have may own hosting space and while shared hosting is cheap but have been advised by few that I shouldn't go for shared hosting but prefer VPS. One of the technical person said I can anyway go with shared hosting and that too will suffice if I have security plan and backup, as the my site will be small one with limited products. Hostinger/GoDaddy/Bluehost/Hostgator are few hosting provide I found. Suggest a good hosting plan with good up time and customer support and last but not the least, it should be cheap one.

    3. If I prefer building site on my own then, buying a template and modifying it according to my need can be done by me or not. There are many templates available and also e-commerce site builder like WooCommerce and so forth.

    4. Please suggest a good payment gateway, with minimum charges for each transaction.
Razorpay, Paytm, CCAvenue were few reviewed by me but couldn't finalize on one. Also will integration of the same difficult or can be done individually.

There are many more questions but they can be skipped for now. I would like to know that can I manage the site on my own or not? Although I have been managing a few blog with little bit modification here and there but to be honest I do not have any technical know how of any language or code. If needed I am willing to learn the same but want to save time by focusing more on other factors related to marketing and sales than development and implementation.

Be honest and don't suggest anything which may give be false hopes. Want to approach it practically and make it work.

Wish me luck with your kind suggestions.

  • I think it would be better if you go for some hosting options. There are many hosting sites available for this purpose. As per the ratings, review and information available, some of the hosts where one can look for porting eCommerce work are -

    1. HostGator - It provides single domain, 10 GB Disk Space, 100 GB Transfer, 5 Email Accounts, Free SSL Certificate and 45-day Money Back Guarantee. It charges Rs 99 rental per month.

    2. BlueHost - It is a bit costlier charging about Rs 500 per month but gives 1 Online Store, 100 GB SSD Storage, Storefront Theme Installed, Free SSL, Domain Privacy, Rs 4000 Marketing Credit, Free Setup Call, 24/7 WooCommerce Support, and 30 Days Money-back Guarantee.

    3. BigRock - This is quite affordable at Rs 59 per month. It gives one domain, , 20 GB Space, 100 GB Transfer, Free SSL Certificate5 Emails, Dedicated 24/7 technical support, and 30 day Money Back Guarantee.

    4. Site ground - It charges around Rs 300 per month and provides one domain, 10GB Web Space, WooCommerce + Storefront Installed, Encrypted SSL, and expert 24/7 All-channel support.

There are many others also but more and less are having similar parameters. As regards the number of items, it does not matter whether you have a few or more. What matters is what is the market for them. If they are in demand one can do good business.

    Knowledge is power.

  • After reading your post I can suggest to create a page on Facebook or create a blog and start posting your products. For example, if it is clothing: post the pictures of the dresses/shirts. Give complete information about the product like material, price and delivery details. Interested people would approach you through Facebook messenger or provide your WhatsApp number.

These 2 are for free and easy to access. As per the situation due to COVID, people are more interested in online shopping only. Post the product details and payment details as well in a clear way. In any online business, the most important thing is publicity. Post about your page in all the social media you are accessing. Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp are 3 major platforms to share as most of them use these 3. To create a blog or page on Facebook you can find many articles to guide you. For the payment process, you can opt COD or pay through Google Pay. Most of the customers prefer COD.

I have suggested based on your financial situation.
