  • Like for all bank branches, you need to visit the bank branch to close your bank account. Carry along with you all the bank related objects like cards, cheque book as well as your own ID proof.

There is a small form which you or the bank staff will fill and your account will be closed.

IDFC bank also has a zero balance account offering which you can get your savings account converted to. You will get a debit card along with internet banking facilities with this type of account without the need to maintain any minimum balance.

  • Closing of an account can not be done online as they want to see the genuineness of the person. Bank would also be interested to know as why you want to close it and when you tell them the reason they would immediately come to you with some scheme where no minimum amount is necessary. So, in all probability your account would be converted into some flexible FD or some other product like that. If you still insist they would close your account. You have to present the passbook (if it was issued to you) and remainng cheque leafs so that in future no complication arises if someone uses them in a fraudulent way.

    Knowledge is power.
