Nokia 6 marks the launch relaunch of Nokia to the smartphone arena after a break. The device is likely to be launched in India on June 13 along with other devices like Nokia 3 and Nokia 5. The device has been making appearances in the press and media through benchmark tests and leaks. Here is what we can expect from the new Nokia 6.
Design
In spite of having a budget pricing, Nokia 6 has a premium look with unibody design made from a single Aluminium black. With dimensions reading 154 x 75.8 x 7.85mm , it weighs a little heavy, yet easy to carry. The phone has flat sides which can cause an uncomfortable feeling while handling it, though. You should be able to buy it in silver, copper, matte black and tempered blue, while there will also be a special edition in glossy Arte Black. Power and volume rockers are on the right, there is a 3.5 mm audio port on the top. The microUSB port finds itself at the bottom. Nokia 6 has a fingerprint sensor embedded within the Home button.
Display
Nokia 6 sports a 5.5 inch display in full HD resolution. The images and text appear crisp and sharper. The IPS LCD display has Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The contrast and brightness levels are just awesome.
Software
The phone should be a treat for those who love stock Android. The phone runs on Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box. There is no unnecessary chunkiness that is normally seen in other Android smartphones. There are no bloatware that comes pre-installed. That would make the phone work quite smoothly. Noika has stated that the device will be upgraded to Android O when it is available.
Finger print sensor works effectively. You can record up to 5 fingerprints. Though a few hiccups have been noticed, it isn't that bad.
Hardware
Nokia 6 is powered by Snapdragon 430 processor which clocks at 1.4 GHz. Adreno 505 GPU handles the task of graphics. You will get 3 GB of onboard RAM. Please note that the special edition Arte Black provides you 4 GB RAM. The use of an entry level processor can give rise to concerns, however, it is quite early to predict how does it perform. The internal storage on the phone reads 32 GB while you have the option of expanding it further by means of a microSD card. It supports memory expansion up to 128 GB.
Camera
Nokia 6 comes with a 16 MP camera on the rear. The camera has dual tone flash and HDR compatibility. The front carries a 8 MP selfie camera for the selfie fans. The primary camera has a 1 micron pixels and Phase detection auto focus. The camera app is quite simple and employs a standard interface.
Battery and other features
The phone is shipped with a 3000 mAh battery. I would expect it to run through a day's usage quite easily with moderate usage patterns.
The phone offers you dual SIM compatibility, but it employs a hybrid SIM slot. That would mean you need to make a choice between a dual SIM functionality, or an expanded storage. You will get 4G LTE compatibility. Other connectivity features include WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, and not to forget FM Radio.
Pricing and availability
The phone is yet to be launched in India. It should be interesting to note that HMD Global has arranged a press conference on June 13, 2017 and it could see the launch of Nokia 6 along with other phones. The approximate price would be Rs. 17000. However, for the exact number, we may need to wait till the official confirmation.
