  • OTG compatibility issue and confusion

Are you confused about the compatibility issue of OTGs in mobile phones? Our technical experts would guide you through.

My INTEX CLOUD 3G GEMPLUS does not detect pendrive/memory card readers via OTG cable, but some companies advertise OTG cable for this phone. My question is whether my phone supports USB host (OTG). If so why special cables for some particular mobile brands are advertised when any OTG cable should be compatible with any OTG supported mobile phone?

  • Your phone Intex Cloud 3G GEMPLUS does not have USB OTG compatibility. As such you will not be able to use it with any USB drive to view the files saved on it.
Even I have seen some of the manufacturers listing USB OTG cables for this particular model. Please note that if the phone does not come with the necessary hardware or software support for USB OTG functionality, no cable can introduce the feature. Moreover, I do not understand the logic behind the claims that a particular cable will support USB OTG functionality on a particular phone. Any USB OTG compatible cable should work with any phone that has embedded support for USB OTG functionality.
Only conclusion we can draw from those claims is that, they are fake.

  • The Intex Cloud 3G Gem Plus model doesn't support OTG functionality. When the model doesn't support the OTG compatibility, there is no possibility for any detection of Pendrive or Memory card in your device. There is no possible option for any company product supporting OTG for this model. The manufacturer has clearly mentioned this device doesn't support this functionality and there is no other possibility for supporting OTG. There are some universal OTG cables available in market. If your device is compatible you can buy those cables for use. But this doesn't mean all cables are supportable for all devices. So those news were not real and applicable in reality.

  • Intex Cloud 3G Gem Plus is USB 2.0 compatible device. And it does not have the USB OTG compatibility. Considering the device is making use of the earlier hardware for connectivity, it can't be extended for the OTG functionality. It can;t be extended with either any software or with any external hardware support. Apart from OTG, it doesn't support modern connectivity options like NFC, Infrared and LTE. You can read more about the available functionality support in this table : http://gadgets.ndtv.com/intex-cloud-3g-gem-3228

  • Ambrane A3-7 Plus 3g calling tablet running on Android 4.2 gives OTG cable as accessory in the box but I cannot find or detect any pendrive/memory card readers. Why has then the manufacturer included the OTG cable as accessory? Or is it a problem of the device drivers?
